Olive oil is a kitchen staple in most homes, and it has more uses than you might think. Here are a few of them.

1. No more squeaky doors. Using a clean cloth, rub olive oil onto the hinges of your doors so they swing without a squeak!

2. Soften lips. Soothe chapped lips by rubbing olive oil directly on your lips, or make your own solid olive oil lip balm! Just mix one part olive oil and one part

beeswax, pour into an old glass pot and let harden in the fridge.

3. Shine stainless-steel appliances. Get rid of streaks and add shine to your fridge, oven, microwave and more by rubbing olive oil over the surface using a soft cloth; let sit one minute, then buff up a gorgeous gleam.

4. Remove sticky marks. Can’t get the price stickers off a glass surface? Gently rub the area with olive oil on a clean cloth. The oil will break down the glue, leaving the glass spotless.

5. Get paint out of your hair. Tackling a paint job and get stray splatters in your hair? Dab a cotton ball with a little olive oil and run it through your hair before you shampoo. It’ll lift the paint right off.

There is a common theme to these accidents: • The child was supervised by one or both parents • 69% of children were not expected to be at the pool• 77% of the accident victims were missing for 5 minutes or less

Here is what you can learn from these statistics• Young children and toddlers move faster than you think. Drowning and near drowning can happen in an instant.• Swimming pool drownings are silent. You will not hear a call for help. • These accidents are preventable.

BarriersThe consensus among experts is that the best way to improve these statistics is through construction and maintenance of effective barriers to prevent access to the pool area. The barrier should be continuous around the pool. The barrier should prevent a child from climbing over, crawling under or passing through. Shrubs are not an acceptable barrier.

Here are a few things to consider:Door From House to Pool AreaThis door should have an alarm out of a child’s reach that sounds immediately when the door is opened.

GatesThe gate to the pool area should be out of a child’s reach, self closing, self latching with a locking mechanism. The gate should open out from the pool area so that a toddler leaning on an ‘almost latched’ gate will close the gate.

Barrier HeightThe barrier (fence) should be at least 48 inches high. look for anything that could negate the height of the barrier such as a bench, storage bin or tree next to the barrier. The barrier should come to within 4 inches of the ground in all areas otherwise a child could squeeze under. for example, the standard chain link fence is too easy to climb.

Vertical MembersVertical members of a fence should be spaced close enough together to prevent a child from squeezing through. four inches is the maximum opening size.

Pool Safety Coversa power safety cover can be used to increase the safety of the pool. When in place, these covers will prevent kids from falling into an unattended pool. These are not standard pool covers. They are designed specifically for this purpose.

Do your laundry for $200 less!

Stop hundreds of dollars from being washed away in your laundry room every year! Simply follow these super-easy tricks that’ll cut your energy bill, reduce water use and save you money—while still getting your clothes sparkling fresh and clean!

1. Save $100 a year by halving your detergentSurprise! laundry detergent may help remove stains and scent your clothes, but it’s not the main reason they get clean. The actual cleaning is done by your washer’s agitator and by the clothes rubbing against each other, which loosens dirt. That’s why experts say you can use half the detergent and still get fresh, clean clothes.2. Save $40 a year by using cool waterIt’s a fact: Warm water doesn’t make clothes any cleaner than cool water. But there is a big difference when it comes to our energy bill—around 90% of the energy used by your washer goes to heat the water! Skip the heat, and you’ll snag cool savings.3. Save $30 a year with full loadsThe average home uses 3,400 fewer gallons of water a year when they wash full loads instead of smaller ones, says the U.S. Department of energy.4. Save $40 a year by cleaning the lint trapCleaning the lint trap after every use reduces your electric bill by cutting 15 minutes off your dryer time! This improves air circulation so your clothes are exposed to more heat, making them dry faster.

Every year, hundreds of children drown or nearly drown in residential swimming pools.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has a strategic goal to reduce the rate of drowning of children under age 5 by 10% over the next 10 years.

Sure, it’s your haven, but home is also where the most accidents happen, make your home accident-proof with these simple tips:

Prevent a kitchen fire… by carrying a wooden spoon. It’s easy for the kids or the phone to distract you when you’re cooking. Keeping a spoon with you reminds you to check what’s on the stove.

Make stairs trip-proof… with paint! We often overlook the bottom basement step, especially when carrying laundry. The easy fix is to paint the bottom step white to make it more visible.

Avoid cuts… by turning knives upside down. One of the most common ways people get cut is by stabbing themselves while unloading the dishwasher. The easy fix is to load them with the point down. The alternate fix is to hand wash them and put them away before any one can get hurt.

Prevent ladder falls… with your belt. Use your belt to measure how high to climb. When your belt buckle is even with the top step, you’ve gone as high as you should. Otherwise, you could throw the ladder off balance, causing it to topple.

Do you have children at home… Think about your children crawling around your home on your hands and knees. Older children might try to climb shelves, or pull pots and pans off stovetops and run around. Kids explore their everyday environments, so it’s crucial to check things out from their perspective to make sure your home is safe. No matter what their age.

Buckle up before you leave the drivewayCar accidents are twice as likely to happen close to home as on the highway.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CURIOSITY Curiosity is an important trait of a genius. I don’t think you can find an intellectual giant who is not a curious person. Thomas edison, leonardo da Vinci, albert einstein, richard feynman, they are all curious characters.

But why is curiosity so important? Here are four reasons:

1. It makes your mind active instead of passive Curious people always ask questions and search for answers in their active minds. The mind is like a muscle which becomes stronger through continual exercise, the mental exercise caused by curiosity makes your mind stronger and stronger.

2. It makes your mind observant of new ideas When you are curious about something, your mind expects and anticipates new ideas related to it. Without curiosity, the ideas may pass right in front of you and yet you miss them because your mind is not prepared to recognize them.

3. It opens up new worlds and possibilities Curiosity will allow you to see new worlds and possibilities which are normally not visible. They are hidden behind the surface of normal life, and it takes a curious mind to look beneath the surface and discover.

4. It brings excitement into your life The life of curious people is far from boring. It’s neither dull nor routine. There are always new things that attract their attention. Curious people have an adventurous life.

Now, knowing the importance of curiosity, here are some tips to develop it:

1. Keep an open mind. Be open to learn, unlearn, and relearn. Some things you know and believe might be wrong, and you should be prepared to accept this possibility and change your mind.

2. Don’t take things as granted. If you just accept the world as it is without trying to dig deeper, you will certainly lose the ‘holy curiosity’. Try to dig deeper beneath the surface of what is around you.

3. Ask questions relentlessly. What is that? Why is it made that way? When was it made? Who invented it? Where does it come from? How does it work? These questions are the best friends of curious people.

4. Don’t label something as boring. Whenever you label something as boring, you close one more door of possibilities. Curious people always see the door to an exciting new world to be left open for later.

5. See learning as something fun, not a burden. If you think of learning as something fun, you will naturally want to dig deeper. So look at life through the glasses of fun and excitement and enjoy the learning process..

6. Read diverse kinds of reading. Introduce yourself to the possibilities and excitement of the other worlds which may spark your interest to explore them further. One easy way to do this is through reading.

So here’s to becoming as curious as a cat and exploring the wonders that await you in this fantastic world. enjoy.
