The Configuration and Tuning Tutorial of M30

1. Purpose

Through config M30(PSTN gateway), to achieveRD98X(Firmware R4.0 and above) phone interconnect

feature.

2. The principle of phone interconnect feature

The phone interconnect feature use DTMF signaling to achieve the communications between DMR radio and

phone. The DMR radio transmitsa call and Access code into the repeater and PSTN network, to achieve a call

between DMR radio and phone; when this call is ended, the DMR radio transmit De-Access code or hang

upphone to quit this conversation.

The equipment you may need

Mobile terminals(PD78X/MD78X and other DMR terminals)

Repeater(RD98X series)

PSTN gateway (M30 here)

Pin port connect cable

The diagrammatic drawing when radio call phone

Send Access code to enter phone interconnect system.

Use radio to dial and call

Send De-Access code to quit phone interconnect system.

PSTN Net

Pick up the phone to receive the call from radio.

Quit the conversation through hang up the phone.

3. The equipment &tools you need when config phone interconnect

1) Analyzer(we use HP8921A)

2) RF cable and RF connector

3) RF detect cable

4) Tuning tool

5) M30 connect cable (To connect the M30&RD98X’s DB26 port, need to DIY)

4. How to DIY M30 connect cable

2) The connection between M30 10pin &Repeater DM26 port

5. The adjust steps of M30

1) Remove all screws of M30, open its top cover.

2) The instruction of how to change M30 jumper

Change JP7 wire jumper: M30 can detect internal carrier or external carrier. We use external carrier

detection here. We need to change JP7 to B position to let M30’s pin#8 COR IN active.

Change JP8 wire jumper: JP8 can only on position B or C.When the pin#3 of repeater is active by

low level,JP8 should be on position C. Otherwise, When the pin#3 of repeater is active by high

level,JP8 should be on positionB.Because we set RD98X is active by low level, so JP8 is on

position C.

CARRIERADJUST (R90): Connect RD98X and M30, connect the power to M30, check if the

indicator (CARRIER) is on.

When repeater is under standby mode( does not detect the carrier),Adjust R90 to let M30’s

CARRIER indicator off.

Let analyzer produce -47dBm RF signal, let repeater work under Rx mode, adjust R90 until

M30’s CARRIER indicator on.

3) Connect analyzer(HP8921A), RD98X, M30 and the cables we mentioned above( include RF detect cable,

one end to analyzer Audio-In port, another to detect the mainboard’s signal.

4) Adjust the DISC audio in gain: Let analyzer produce a 3KHz frequency deviation/1KHz modulated audio

signal, to let it DB26 pin produce 1KHz/800mV audio, adjust RECEIVE LEVEL(R4) on M30 panel.Let

IC U1’s pin#14 is 1Vp-p. It means the AC LEVEL of analyzer’s DUPLEX TEST is 1V.The detail steps as

follows:

Set RD98X under the current analog channel(we already know the Tx/Rx frequency is

463.075/453.075MHz), the setting of analyzer as below:

Input a -47dBm RF signal, use RF detect cable to detect R6 on M30 mainboard. And use the tuning

tool to adjust M30 RECEIVE LEVEL on rear panel, to let AC LEVEL on analyzer is 1V.

Note: If you found after several tries of adjustment on RECEIVE LEVEL, it is still very hard to

adjust AC LEVEL to 1V, that means the receive gain on M30 mainboard is not enough, you can

modify JP1 to choose different gain path. When JP1 is on position A it is low gain path;when JP1 is

on B position it is high gain path. Here we adjust JP 1 on B position.

5) The steps of adjust TX Audio gain output

We need to config M30, RD98X and PD78X.(When PD78X is transmitting, the transmit signal will

be forward by repeater, then through M30 connect cable enter M30, if M30’s TRANSMIT indicator

is on, that means the transmittingpath is OK).

RD98X CPS setting (in this test we only config the frequency and accessoriesparameter.)

Note: the pin#3 setting is different under analog and digital channels.Andplease set pin#16 is Ext

Mic PTT, and it have to be low active level.

For analog channel: Set pin#3 is Carrier Detect.

For digital channel: Set pin#3 is Voice Detect.

The command of M30 (please refer M30 product manual for more information)

If you want to change M30 Access code, De-Access code, please dial“12123#” access code to enter

M30 programing mode, dial 99# to quit programing mode then dial the different command. In order

to work with DMR radios to achieve phone interconnect function, you need let M30 work under

duplex mode.

Modify Access code: 12123#—01#—Access code#—99#

Modify De-Access code: 12123#—02#—De-Access code#—99#

Modify M30 to duplex mode: 12123#—40#—99#

PD78X CPS settings

Usephone enter M30’s control mode( M30 can use CONNECT button to establish a connection,

press 12123#, then enter 92#, let M30 produce a 1KHz audio signal on its pin#5, remaining for 30s,

adjust TRANSMIT LEVEL(R5) on M30 rear panel, let it output 80mV audio signal or let repeater

produce 3KHz frequency deviation.(Because we adjust RF frequencydeviation to 3KHz under Tx

mode of analyzer),if this method doesn’t work, please set JP3 toposition A(JP3 can only on position

A or B. Default pin#3 is in position B, low gain path; if set it on position A it is high gain path. Here

we choosethe default position B.)

Adjust TRANSMIT Let FM Deviation 3KHz

Use PD78X to try dial the phone, and test if phone interconnect function works well.

This adjustment of M30 is done.

6. Other commands of M30 you may need

1) Busy tone detect: Please open this function in whole call conversation, the default setting is 20s after

conversation begin. Please use following command to change it

12123#—87#—99#

2) Call Limit time: we need change call limit time to 10 minutes, the default setting is 3 minutes. Please use

following command to change it

Change to 5 minutes:12123#—35#—99#

Change to 10 minutes:12123#—34#—99#
