Way the Sons of the Pio-

neers start riding “down

memory trail,” it’s a long ride and the

memories are pleasant ones.

Among the songs that have been

tucked away in their memory bag are

melodies the Sons of the Pioneers admit

to wishing they’d introduced and have

always known they were someday go-

ing to record. Well, that someday is

here. |

Sleepy Rio Grande and Left My Gal

in the Mountains were written by their

good friend, the late Carson Robison,

and they’re special favorites of the Pio-

neers. Another border ballad, Vaya con

Dios, has been in their repertoire ever

since Les Paul and Mary Ford made it

a hit several years ago. The Paul-Ford

combination was also responsible for

Mockin’ Bird Hill, although this one

had a north-of-the-border flavor—say,

around Nashville.

Country music has always been a

kissin’ cousin to their own western

music, so it’s.no wonder that the Pio-

neers have responded to songs like Gone

and Born to Lose, which Ferlin Husky

popularized, and Four Walls, which was

a million-selling record for the late Jim

Reeves. But, as we were saying, music

doesn’t recognize geography any longer.

That’s why Kay Starr can sing Bona-

parte’s Retreat and Dean Martin can

sing Memories Are Made of This, and

a few years later the Sons of the Pio-

neers can ride onto the scene and sing

those songs like they wrote them them-

selves.

The secret of the Sons of the Pio-

neers’ success is really no secret. They

have a manner of singing, a blend of

voices, and something to say with a song.

One of the things they keep on saying

is that the West spreads all over America

and America spreads all over the West.

Lots of songs come along, and every once

in a while one of them connects. It means

something to people and they add it to

their experiences and their memories.

This album starts off with the Sons

of the Pioneers singing “Memories .. .

memories . . .’ and it winds up with

“Among my souvenirs .. .” That tells

the story—a story in twelve songs, songs

that have earned the right to be recalled.

DYNAGROOVE Dynagroove records are the product

of RCA Victor’s newly developed

system of recording which provides

a spectacular improvement in the

sound quality.

eliminated!

To solve these old and obstinate prob-

lems in disc recording, highly ingen-

ious computers — “electronic brains”

—have been introduced to audio for

the first time. These remarkable new

electronic devices and processes grew

out of an intense research program

which produced notable advances in

virtually every step of the recording

science.

The final test of any record is in the listening—compare the sound of Dyna- groove recordings!

Dynagroove recordings are mastered

on RCA Magnetic Tape.
