Precautions while UsingEXILIM Connect

Important!

● Inside an aircraft or anywhere elsewhere use of wireless communicationis restricted or prohibited, put thecamera into the airplane mode.

● Depending on your smartphonemodel, its operating system version,and/or its remaining storage capacitycan cause failure of a movie orsnapshot save operation.Receiving a camera file, perform therequired operation on yoursmartphone to check if the file wasstored properly.

● Some terminals store received moviesin a folder named EXILIM Connect.

● With some terminals, you may not beable to play back received movies and/or output audio. In this case, you willrequire a separate movie player thatsupports playback of MOV type moviefiles.

● Images recorded with anothercompany’s camera cannot be receivedusing this app.

● Attempting to use a memory card thatincludes a wireless function with yourcamera can cause abnormaloperation.

Note

● Note that using wireless functionsrequires more battery power usagethan normal. Make sure that thecamera battery is sufficiently chargedbefore starting a wireless operation.

● The connectible range between thecamera and a smartphone depends onthe local communication environmentand on the type of terminal you areusing.

Connecting to aCamera

The first time you establish a wirelessconnection between the camera and asmartphone, you need to use the procedurebelow to configure wireless connectionsettings.There are two types of wireless connection:Bluetooth® wireless technology connectionand wireless LAN connection.

Pairing the Camera with aSmartphone

Wireless LAN connection settings can beconfigured by simply establishing a Bluetoothwireless technology connection (pairing)between the camera and smartphone.Up to two cameras can be paired with asmartphone at one time.● The camera operations you need to perform

depend on the camera model. For fulldetails, see the user documentation thatcomes with your camera.

1. Prepare the camera for pairing asdescribed below.Camera Equipped with a MonitorScreenOn the camera, enter a wireless mode andthen select “Pairing”.l Entering the Camera’s Wireless ModeCamera Not Equipped with a MonitorScreenUse the procedure provided in the userdocumentation that comes with thecamera to set it up for pairing.

2. On the smartphone, start up the “EXILIMConnect” app.● If this is the first time you are starting up

EXILIM Connect, a “LICENSEAGREEMENT” and “Privacy Policy” willappear. Tap “Agree”. This will display ascreen that explains app functions.On the screen, tap “Next” to continue tothe text screen. Tapping “Done” at theend will display the top screen (EXILIMConnect Top Screen).

3. On the smartphone, tap “Pairing”.

4. On the smartphone, tap the camera’sname (SSID) you want to pair with.This establishes a Bluetooth wirelessconnection between the camera andsmartphone.● The camera name (SSID) will be

displayed after you enter the WirelessMode on the camera and select“Pairing”.On the screen that appears, check the“Device” item.If your camera is not equipped with amonitor screen, you can find its name(SSID) on the sheet that comes packedwith it.

● If the smartphone is already paired withtwo cameras, a camera selectionscreen appears. Select the camerawhose pairing you want to overwrite.

5. Follow the instructions that appear on thesmartphone to complete the pairingoperation.● In the case of an iPhone (iOS), you need

to configure wireless LAN settings(install a profile).

● If there is no wireless LAN connectionbetween the camera and smartphone,use the smartphone’s Wi-Fi settings toselect the camera’s SSID to establish awireless LAN connection between thecamera and smartphone.

● Entering the Camera’s Wireless ModeTo connect with a camera or to send picturesfrom a camera that has not been paired withthe smartphone, put the camera into itsWireless Mode.● The camera operations you need to perform

depend on the camera model. For fulldetails, see the user documentation thatcomes with your camera.

If your camera has a [W] (Wireless)button:

Press [W] (Wireless).If your camera does not have a [W](Wireless) button:

Press [MENU], select the “REC MENU” tabor “PLAY MENU” tab, select “WirelessMode”, and then press [SET].

If your camera supports touch paneloperation:

Touch the Show icon and then the wirelessmode icon.

You can use the EXILIM Connect top screento check the current status of the connectionwith the camera.

Connecting with a PairedCamera

Connection with the smartphone becomeseasy once a camera is paired with it.Use the procedures below to connect with apaired camera.● The camera operations you need to perform

depend on the camera model. For fulldetails, see the user documentation thatcomes with your camera.

● Non-EX-FR Series Camera

1. Turn off the camera.● With certain camera models, you can

leave the camera on and display one ofthe screens below before moving on tostep 2.ー Record screenー Playback screenー Wireless mode screen

2. On the smartphone, start up the “EXILIMConnect” app.● Check to make sure that the connection

icon (“ ”) on the top screen is pink.

● EX-FR Series Camera

1. Put the camera into its Sleep Mode ordisplay its Wireless Mode screen.● Either enter the sleep mode.

If you have a controller① Turn on the camera and

controller.② On the controller, press [p]

(Power).If you do not have a controller

Turn on the camera and do notperform any operation for at least 30seconds. This will cause the camerato enter the sleep mode.

The sleep mode is indicated by thecamera’s operation lamp slowlyflashing green.

● Or display the wireless mode screen.① Touch the Show icon.② Touch the wireless mode icon.

2. On the smartphone, start up the “EXILIMConnect” app.● Check to make sure that the connection

icon (“ ”) on the top screen is pink.

If you are unable to establish a wirelessLAN (Wi-Fi) connection between thesmartphone and camera, it may meanthat the smartphone is alreadyconnected to one of the wireless LANsbelow.Re-establish the wireless LANconnection with the smartphone usingthe camera’s SSID and password.

Unpairing the Camera from aSmartphone

To use the camera with a differentsmartphone, first unpair it from the currentsmartphone.Note that you need to perform operations onboth the smartphone and the camera to unpairthem.● The camera operations you need to perform

depend on the camera model. For fulldetails, see the user documentation thatcomes with your camera.

1. On the smartphone TOP screen (EXILIMConnect Top Screen), tap “ ”.

2. On the smartphone, tap “Unpairing”.● When the smartphone is paired with two

cameras, a camera selection screenappears. Select the camera from whichyou want to unpair.

3. On the smartphone, tap “Unpair”.● If you are unpairing from an iPhone

(iOS), delete the camera’s wirelessLAN connection settings (profile) fromthe iPhone settings.

4. On the camera, perform the requiredunpairing operation.

Connecting with a Cameravia Wireless LAN WithoutPairing

You need to configure smartphone wirelessLAN connection settings by inputting thecamera’s SSID and password.For information about how to configurewireless LAN connection settings, refer toyour camera’s user documentation.

Remote CaptureThis function lets you remotely shoot asnapshot or movie with the camera using asmartphone (Remote Capture).You also can perform remote zoom, self-timer,and other operations as well.

Controlling the Camera andPerforming Remote Capturefrom a Smartphone

● The camera operations you need to performdepend on the camera model. For fulldetails, see the user documentation thatcomes with your camera.

● Paired Camera OperationYou can start Remote Capture by performingthe simple steps below.

1. After pairing with the camera, start up“EXILIM Connect” on the smartphone.l Connecting with a Paired CameraIf there is a Bluetooth wireless technologyconnection between the camera andsmartphone, the connection icon (“ ”)on the EXILIM Connect top screen will bepink.

2. On the smartphone, tap “RemoteCapture”.After a short while, the camera will start upin its wireless mode, ready to recordimages under remote control of thesmartphone.● If a camera selection screen appears,

select the camera you want to use forRemote Capture.

3. Compose the image on the smartphone’sscreen as you shoot.● About 60 seconds after Remote

Capture starts, the camera’s monitorscreen will go blank.Even though the monitor screen isblank, you can shoot images as long asthe camera’s back lamp or operationlamp is lit green.

● With an EX-FR Series camera, you canshoot images as long as the camera’swireless LAN connection lamp is litblue.

● After you are finished with RemoteCapture, return to the app’s top screen.

● You can view an image stored incamera memory by tapping “ ”.

● Un-paired Camera OperationsPerform one of the procedures below to startRemote Capture.To perform operations on an un-pairedcamera*

1. On the camera, enter the wireless mode.l Entering the Camera’s Wireless Mode

2. On the camera, select “Shoot with phone”,and then “Remote Start” or “Start”.● If there is a wireless LAN connection

between the smartphone and camera,advance to step 4 of this procedure.

3. For the smartphone’s Wi-Fi settings,select the SSID displayed on the cameraand establish a wireless LAN connectionbetween the camera and smartphone.

4. On the smartphone, start up the “EXILIMConnect” app.

5. Compose the image on the smartphone’sscreen as you shoot.● About 60 seconds after Remote

To perform operations with EXILIMConnect

1. Use the procedure provided in the userdocumentation that comes with thecamera to set it up for wireless LANconnection.

2. For the smartphone’s Wi-Fi settings,select the camera’s SSID, and establish awireless LAN connection between thecamera and smartphone.

3. On the smartphone, start up “EXILIMConnect” and then tap “Remote Capture”.This will enable recording, with cameraoperations controlled from thesmartphone.● If a camera selection screen appears,

select the camera you want to use forRemote Capture.

Receives the snapshot that was justrecorded with the camera.This option is not displayed while the “Autocopy after shooting” Remote Capturesetting ( ) is turned on, becauserecorded images are sent to thesmartphone automatically.

N GPS iconShows whether or not location informationis being included. A “GPS” icon isdisplayed while information is beingembedded.

O Battery icon*

Shows the camera’s battery status.

P Remaining memory capacity*

Shows the current remaining memorycapacity.When shooting snapshots, shows thenumber of images that can be shot. Whenshooting a movie, shows the remainingtime that can be recorded.

Q Self-timer button*

Displays current self-timer settings.Tap to change self-timer settings.

* Depending on the camera model, thisfunction may not be displayed or you maynot be able to change its setting.

Camera Limitations with RemoteCapture

Depending on the model of the camera beingused there may be limitations on shooting.Equipped functions depend on the cameramodel.● The displayed shooting area and the image

that is actually shot may be different,depending on the camera model or modebeing used.

● Certain camera models let you specify themovie quality for Remote Capture.If you are using a camera that does notsupport movie quality setting for RemoteCapture, movie quality is STD (640×480).

● “ Tracking” cannot be selected for the AFarea setting while shooting with RemoteCapture.If “ Tracking” is selected in another mode,selecting Remote Capture will cause the AFarea setting to change to “ Spot”.

● The Motion Shutter cannot be used whileshooting with this function.

● Some camera models let you change therecording mode or drive mode. Availablerecording modes and drive modes dependon the camera model.

● Depending on your camera model, thesettings below can be configured withEXILIM Connect while Program Auto HighSpeed CS is selected as the recordingmode or drive mode. The settings you canconfigure depend on your camera model.ー High Speed CS fpsー Maximum CS Shotsー Pre-record CS Shotsー Pre-record CS

● When the “Focus” setting is “AF” (AutoFocus) or “Macro”, continuous AF isenabled during Remote Capture and focusis performed in the center of image.

● Certain camera models allow intervalrecording of snapshots. To start an IntervalShooting operation, select either of themodes below as the EXILIM Connectrecording mode or drive mode. Viewing Images inCamera Memory

You can use the procedures in this section toview snapshots stored in camera memory ona smartphone, and to copy snapshots andmovies to the smartphone. Depending on theconnected camera, you may also be able touse EXILIM Connect to delete and protectimages stored in camera memory.

Viewing Images on aSmartphone

● The camera operations you need to performdepend on the camera model. For fulldetails, see the user documentation thatcomes with your camera.

● Paired Camera Images

1. After pairing with the camera, start up“EXILIM Connect” on the smartphone.l Connecting with a Paired CameraIf there is a Bluetooth wireless technologyconnection between the camera andsmartphone, the connection icon (“ ”)on the EXILIM Connect top screen will bepink.

2. On the smartphone, tap “View on Phone”.After a short while, the camera will start upin its wireless mode and display a menu ofimages in camera memory.● If a camera selection screen appears,

select the camera whose image youwant to view.

● Tapping “ ” will start Remote Capture.If your camera has a telescoping lensstarting a Remote Capture operationwill cause the lens to extend. Make surethere is nothing near the camera thatmight interfere with lens movement.

Copying Images to aSmartphone

Deleting ImagesThis function is available for some cameramodels.

3. On the smartphone, tap the images youwant to delete.There will be a check mark in the checkbox of all the images you select.

4. After selecting all of the images you wantto delete, tap “ ” (Delete) on thesmartphone.

5. On the smartphone, tap “OK”.This will delete the selected image fromthe camera.

● A protected file cannot be deleted.

Protecting ImagesThis function is available for some cameramodels.

1. Use the procedure under Viewing Imageson a Smartphone to display menu ofimages in the memory of the camerawhose images you want to view on thesmartphone.

2. On the smartphone, tap “Select”.

3. On the smartphone, tap the images youwant to protect.There will be a check mark in the checkbox of all the images you select.

Sending Images fromthe Camera

You can configure settings to send images tothe smartphone automatically as they are shotwith the camera, or you can send selectedimages.

● A movie file sent from the camera to aniPhone (iOS) smartphone is saved as-is as a MOV file.Transfer to most other terminals thatare not an iPhone (iOS) will normallycause the movie file to be converted toan MP4 file.If a terminal that is not an iPhone (iOS)is unable to convert a movie file to MP4format for some reason, the movie filewill be saved as-is as a MOV file.

Having the Camera SendImages to the Smartphone asThey are Recorded (AutoSend)

You can configure the app so images are sentfrom the paired camera to the smartphone assoon as they are shot.If there is no connection between the cameraand smartphone when the images are shot,they will be sent as soon as a connection isestablished.● The camera operations you need to perform

● The maximum size movie file that canbe sent by the camera’s Auto Send is100 MB.

● Some camera recording modes maynot allow auto send of images.

Note

● Auto Send cannot be enabled unlessthe camera is paired with asmartphone.

● Both a Bluetooth and wireless LANconnection are required between thecamera and smartphone to auto sendcamera images.

● With some camera models, you canspecify the size of snapshots sent tothe smartphone using the camera’s“Resize before send” feature.

● Auto Send is disabled while thecamera’s Airplane Mode setting is“On”. Auto Send become re-enabledwhen the setting is changed to “Off”.

● Images shot while the camera’s AutoSend setting is “On” will be sent to thesmartphone, even if the app’s AutoSend setting is changed to “Off” beforethe images are sent.

● Depending on the connected camera,turning off the camera while there areunsent images in memory will cause analert message to appear.If you want the images to be sent, leavethe camera on until the send operationis complete.Pressing the camera’s [ON/OFF](Power) again will turn off the camera.

● Depending on the connected camera,disconnection of the camera andsmartphone while there are unsentimages will cause an alert message toappear, and then the camera willautomatically turn off after about oneminute. In this case, the camera will tryto send the images again after it isturned back on.

Sending the Image Displayedon the Camera MonitorScreen to a Smartphone(Quick Send)

With some camera models, you can use theprocedure below to send an image displayedin the PLAY mode (including movies) to asmartphone by pressing the camera’s frontshutter button. After sending an image to asmartphone, you can then upload it to a socialnetworking service.

To assign the Quick Send functionto the front shutter button

1. Turn on the camera and enter the PLAYmode.

2. On the camera, press [MENU].

3. On the camera, select “Front Shutter” fromthe “PLAY MENU” and then press [SET].

4. On the camera, select “Quick Send” andthen press [SET].● Pressing the front shutter button sends

the displayed image to a smartphonevia wireless LAN.

To send the image on the cameramonitor screen to a smartphone

Adding Information toan Image

With some camera models, you can performthe steps below to add location information tosnapshots sent to the smartphone.

Adding Location Informationto Snapshots sent to theSmartphone

Important!

● Enabling location-based servicescauses the recording date, locationinformation, and other personallyidentifiable information to be includedin the snapshot data.Take care when sharing or publishingsuch images on web services, etc.

● Never use this camera for navigation,surveying, etc.

● Using Auto Send or Send SelectedImage

When images shot while “On” is selected forlocation information with the “Wirelesssettings” of the camera’s wireless mode aresent to the smartphone using “Auto Send”(Having the Camera Send Images to theSmartphone as They are Recorded (AutoSend)) or “Send Selected Image” (SendingSelected Images to a Smartphone), thesmartphone will add information about wherethe snapshot was shot.You can check whether or not locationinformation was added successfully on thesmartphone’s image receive screen. Whenthe smartphone receives multiple images atthe same time, “With geo tag” will be shown ifeven one of the images is receivedsuccessfully.

● Remote CaptureLocation information is added in the casesdescribed below. This is indicated by a “GPS”icon on the display.● Snapshots sent to the smartphone when the

Storing Images in a SceneAlbum for Sharing withOthers

Settings can be configured so imagesreceived by the smartphone are automaticallystored in a Scene app album.To use the Scene app, you need to install it.You need to use the Scene app to create thealbum for the images.For information about Scene app operations,contact Ripplex Inc.

1. On the smartphone, start up the “EXILIMConnect” app.

2. On the smartphone TOP screen (EXILIMConnect Top Screen), tap “ ”.

3. On the smartphone, tap “Share Album inScene app”.

4. On the smartphone, turn on “Share Albumin Scene app”.

5. Tap the album where you want the imagesto go.

6. Tap “Back” to return to the settings screen.

Sharing Snapshots with anUnpaired Smartphone (OneTime Share)

With some camera models, you can sharesnapshots you shoot for viewing onsmartphones that are not paired with thecamera.First you send the snapshots you want toshare to a smartphone that is paired with thecamera. Then the smartphone uploads thesnapshots to a Scene server and the cameradisplays a QR code.From there, images can be shared withanother smartphone that is not paired with thecamera by reading the QR code and thenconnecting to the Scene server on theInternet.● The camera operation and One Time Share

operation depend on the camera model. Forfull details, see the user documentation thatcomes with your camera.

The process by which snapshots areuploaded to the Scene server is describedbelow.① Snapshots you selected on the camera are

sent to the smartphone that is paired withthe camera.

② The snapshots are uploaded from thesmartphone to the Scene server.

The above steps are automatic. However, inorder for them to be performed, thesmartphone must be:● The Scene app installed.

Use the procedure below to change thepassword you use when establishing awireless LAN connection between the cameraand a smartphone.

1. On the smartphone TOP screen (EXILIMConnect Top Screen), tap “ ”.

2. On the smartphone, tap “Setting up thecamera”.

3. On the smartphone, tap “WLANpassword”.

4. Enter the new password.● For the password, enter eight single-

byte numerals.

5. After inputting the password, tap “Done”.This changes the camera password.

Note

● The new password will become validthe next time a wireless LANconnection is established between thecamera and smartphone.

Configuring Camera Dateand Time Settings

1. On the smartphone TOP screen (EXILIMConnect Top Screen), tap “ ”.

2. On the smartphone, tap “Setting up thecamera”.

3. On the smartphone, tap “Adjust”.

4. Tap “Run”.This adjusts the camera’s current dateand time settings in accordance with thesmartphone settings.

3. On the smartphone, turn on the “AutoSend” setting.Now the smartphone will be able toreceive images that are automatically sentfrom the camera as they are recorded.

2. On the smartphone, tap “Setting up thecamera”.

3. On the smartphone, tap “Camera Sound”.

4. Select a camera sound.

Looking Up the CameraVersion

1. On the smartphone TOP screen (EXILIMConnect Top Screen), tap “ ”.

3. On the smartphone, look up “CameraVersion”.

Initializing the Camera

required for pairing.● The camera name (SSID) will be displayed

after you enter the Wireless Mode on thecamera, and then select “Pairing”.On the screen that appears, check the“Device” item.If your camera is not equipped with amonitor screen, you can find its name(SSID) on the sheet that comes packed withit.

Q2 The camera won’t send movies.● Auto Send for movies is limited to 100 MB

● Use Bluetooth low energy technology toconnect the camera with the smartphone.Confirm that the smartphone you are usingis Bluetooth low energy technologycompatible. If you are unsure whether itdoes, contact the manufacturer of yoursmartphone.

● Leaving Bluetooth on the smartphone set to“On” is recommended.

● The camera cannot connect with asmartphone if they are too far apart fromeach other.

Q6 Remote Capture shooting is notperformed when I tap “RemoteCapture” on the smartphone.
