DDEESSEERRTT OOAASSIISS

It’s here – the beginning of a long, hot summer in the desert – a heat that could fry an egg on the sidewalk. Remember summers past – scorching steering wheels that burn in a parked car; walking from air conditioning into the incredible “barbeque grill” of the outdoors; mascara running from perspiration, clothes sticking to our bodies. But we adapt and endure – it’s only 4 months, right? (or 5 or 6….)

Sin is like the incredible heat of Arizona – searing our souls with temptations, guilt, resentment, anger, envy, greed. It eats away from the inside out. Sin erodes our faith, washing away our sometimes-thin veneer of trust in God.

We walk from the refreshing “air conditioning” of God’s love into the heat of stress, frustration, worry and we pant, we thirst to “rehydrate” our relationship with Christ, seeking to cool our very souls with His words of compassion and love. We say, “Whew, Lord, I’m back! I was burning up away from you. I want to stay and bask in the valley with You, feel the breeze and the peace that comes when I keep You in my sight and by my side.”

So why do we stray from Christ’s life-giving water? We are human. God gave us choices. We are not perfect. We stray. We experience the energy-draining heat of every-day stress and unbidden thoughts that burn us.

Jesus walks with us through the heat of sin and temptation and says, “Come, it is cool in the meadow of faith in me and my love. If you are burned beyond recognition, I will bind up your wounds, heal you, and carry you for awhile if need be.”

What a relief! Thank you, Lord, for the cool balm of knowing that You died for me. You gave me salvation freely and without conditions. The heat of my sin is quenched in your life-restoring water. Recall the wonderful joy of drinking a cold glass of water on a very hot day. That is what Jesus is to our souls. Drink Him in, always. He is our desert oasis. - Bonnie J. Brockway

“Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up

to eternal life.” JOHN 4:14

We want to thank you for all the encouragement we received from our Gethsemane family at the blessing of our quilts on April 15. God has truly blessed us with hard working ladies, with donations of fabric and monies. We pray that the Moms and babies that receive services through Crises Pregnancy will enjoy the quilts and also be touched by the Spirit of God.

If you would like to be a part of this ministry, join us on the first and third Saturday of each month (May 5 & 19) from 9-12 in the Fellowship Hall. We have ladies who make quilt tops at home and bring them to the church for assembly and tying. Some cut squares at home for others to sew together. We will teach you what you need to know using our supplies. We also have ladies who crochet or knit baby shawls on our work days or at home. Choose your level and type of involvement. You are needed and you will be blessed as you serve. Questions?? Call Bonnie (480-821-9574) or Kathy (480-678-7417).

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, to the people who volunteered and helped make Easter a glorious celebration. Your willingness to step up and serve was greatly appreciated by staff and by our Gethsemane family members.

Thank you for your prayers and support for our grandson Connor when he was injured in the skateboard accident. He is doing much better and we appreciate the power of prayer. - Ken and Marilee Moore

Please convey my heartfelt thanks to my Gethsemane Family for their prayers, cards, emails and calls during my recent recuperation. - Lois Reffel

We want to thank everyone who sent cards and kept the two of us in your prayers. Your expressions of love and concern were both uplifting and humbling. It’s been a long journey since last November for Whitey.

Truly the Lord answered our prayers by putting Whitey in the hands of doctors and surgeons with knowledge and medical tools needed to bring healing. Whitey started physical therapy this week to restore strength to a very weak body. We pray we will be back in worship with all of you at Gethsemane very soon. - Whitey & Jan Buel
