Village Development Committee Survey

Our NGO partner (Namsaling Community Development Center) has expressed interest in projects focusing on the following areas based on the VDC surveys and remaining items in the plan of action:

• Quality of drinking water• Water source protection• Irrigation canals• Hydro canal• Energy efficient households (electricity, cook stoves, biogas)• Waste water treatment/drainage

The community appraisal will focus on these problems and potential solutions.

Community installed peltric sets (water turbine/generators) for electricity production

Solar photovoltaic arrays for single home scale electricity production

RKSustainable Community Development 2009/2010 Mabu, Nepal TeamPrevious SCD team identified high incidence of waterborne disease as most critical problem for Mabu.•Latrine construction selected as the best solution for this problem

• Collaborated with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Haifa-Technion Chapter and Biogas Sector Partnership – Nepal (BSP-Nepal) to construct biogas digesting latrines• Provide energy source for

community in addition to addressing problem of waterborne disease

• Behavior change communication program developed to supplement latrine construction and help ensure sustainability of solution

•Traveled to Mabu to complete actual construction of latrines
