MACARTHUR NEWS
The next General Meeting of the Macarthur Advancement & Development Association Inc.
Wednesday 9th November 7.30pm at the Macarthur Senior Citizens rooms
Out and about in Macarthur
If you have been down to the Rec Reserve in the
last week or so, you may have noticed some changes
taking place. Work has begun to upgrade the old
toilet block for use by spectators, campers and Camp
Draft participants. The first stage is the replacement
of the roof. The new roof will extend further out
over the entrances to the toilets to provide more
protection from the elements.
MADA has just been awarded a grant to remove
more feral trees from the river. Next year, in Au-
tumn or Spring, we will be planting native plants to
beautify the river bank. We are hopeful the Primary
School children will be able to be involved in the
planting and would welcome members of the com-
munity as well! More info later!
Last month we asked for input from the communi-
ty about the opening hours at the tip. While we have
had some responses we would love to hear from
more of you. Are you happy with the current operat-
ing times or would you like to see them adjusted?
Planning for the 2nd” Music in the Vines” event is
well under way. Don’t forget to purchase your
tickets! The organizers are looking for local groups
to help set up and be involved on the day. If your
group would like to raise some money there are
opportunities to be involved. If you have any great
fundraising ideas talk to the organizers (see their ad
in this paper) or talk to a MADA member. Individu-
als are also welcome to submit ideas. Let’s get be-
hind them 100% and build on the success of last
year.
The Camp Draft will be held on the same
weekend as Music in the Vines next year, so there
will be a lot happening in and around Macarthur. We
are looking for additional activities to be run on the
Sunday. We are hopeful that there will be an art ex-
hibition, the Courthouse to be open and possibly the
Men’s Shed. Please put your thinking caps on and
pass your suggestions on to us.
As you are no doubt aware by now, the Macarthur
News has gone digital. Over the next few months we will be collecting the names and email addresses of readers in Macarthur who would like to receive a
digital copy so that we can further reduce the number of papers we need to print. You can start sending us your details now in readiness for the next stage which will be implemented around March. Send to

Hay Fever – A Naturopathic Perspective
Hay fever or Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis is an allergic response to pollens and other airborne aller-gens during Spring and Summer. It affects 15% of Australian population or about t 3.1 million (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare 2011 statistic), causing nasal irritation, discomfort around eyes and breathing difficulties.
Keeping yourself indoors and staying away from the possible sources of allergens helps to avoid hay fever while maintaining an inner homeostasis and good immune system are the keys to prevent and
reduce the severity of hay fever symptoms. Horse-radish in combination with garlic is a good food rem-edy for relieving nasal congestion while consuming more lemons, oranges (Vitamin C) and cod liver oi l(Vitamin A & D) helps to build a healthy immune system. Eucalyptus oil is also an invaluable essential oil as aromatherapy in helping sufferers to breath better.
Holistically, taking good rest, keeping fit, adopt-ing a balanced nutrition and cutting down caffeine and alcohol will help in enhancing your body's immune defence against hay fever.

speech of their own choice. All did very well with our overall winner being Claire McIntosh from Brauer College
Andrew and I along with members of our club have hosted visitors from British Columbia Canada, who are out here for four
