Message from the Vice President David Overton

It's 2015! Time to plan the year for Corvette fun. Some of our major plans start with the World of Wheels in February, Vettes4Vets in May, and the Vette Spectacular in June. For those who are new members Vette Spectacular is MACC's annual Corvette show to raise money for Magic Moments of Alabama. Vettes4Vets is an annual event to raise money for veterans that is held at the Talladega Speedway. We are looking forward to what this year brings and we welcome everyone's input and ideas. This club is for its members and having fun, so drive your Corvette and have fun in the new year.

Corvette Trivia Thom Williamson

A first-ever removable roof is being offered on the 2015 Z06. The stiffer design of the aluminum frame allows the Corvette Z06 to be offered with a removable roof panel for the first time. With the lightweight, carbon fiber roof panel removed, the new Corvette Z06 offers 20 percent more structural rigidity than the previous model’s fixed-roof design. It is 60 percent stiffer than the previous model with the roof panel installed. This means you can open up the top on your daily drive without suffering a huge performance hit. The heart of the 2015 Corvette Z06 is the all-new LT4 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine, delivering 650 horsepower (485 kW) and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm). To balance performance and efficiency, the LT4 leverages the same trio of advanced technologies introduced on the Corvette Stingray: Direct injection, Active Fuel Management, or cylinder deactivation, and continuously variable valve timing. These technologies – combined with the fuel-efficient multi-speed transmissions, aerodynamic design and lightweight construction – help make the new Z06 surprisingly fuel efficient.

The supercharged LT4 is offered with a standard seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match, or an all-new 8L90 eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission designed to enhance both performance and efficiency. Unlike most ultra-performance cars, the Corvette Z06 offers customers the choice between two transmissions to suit their driving styles. The seven-speed gives the driver the control of a true three-pedal manual transmission with perfect shifts enabled by Active Rev Matching. The new eight-speed automatic offers drivers the comfort and drivability of a true automatic transmission, as well as lightning-fast shifts and manual control for track driving.

Tech News

It has been suggested that we add a Tech News section to the newsletter each month. It’s a great idea, so everyone, please get on board and send me a summary of your issue and a fix for it. Thank you Mark Davis for sending the first two.

Problem: I wanted to get rid of the dust on my brake pads.

Solution: I just put Hawks Ceramic brake pads on my 13 GS to get rid of the

dust. One person on MACC commented he did the same thing but they

squeaked when first cold. I believe I have about 98 % less dust and no

squeak. Stopping is great.

Problem: I have been having problems with my gas Cap on the 2013.

I looked on line and this is a problem for all.

Solution from the Corvette Forum: “I had this problem several times with

my '09. I bought 3 new gas caps, and they worked for 6 months or so and

then went bad again. When the message would come up on the DIC, I could

tell that the cap wasn't locking properly when it clicked. The cap would be

loose in the filler neck. Eventually I learned that if I turned the gas cap

counter-clockwise until it clicked a time or two, it would start locking

properly when tightened to one click clockwise. You might try that. Once the

message shows on the DIC, you will continue to get it for a few days after the

fix. I guess the computer is just programmed that way.”

I used this guy’s idea, and it worked.

Problem: Some C6 owners received a recall notice about low beam

headlight failure.

Solution: Basil and Jo Sloan contacted Scott Barber at Dewey Barber

Chevrolet about correcting the headlight issue. Mr. Barber assured MACC

members that they recently received the parts to correct the problem.

Danny Tichnell sent an email to MACC members stating that Dewey Barber

repaired his C6 on Friday. It took about an hour for Johnnie Adams to

complete the work. Danny was very complementary of Scott Barber and

Johnnie Adams’ professionalism and courtesy.

Clay Christmas Parade

Jocko gave stuffed animals to the children at the Clay Christmas parade this year. MACC always has fun passing out candy, beads and stuffed animals to children during the Christmas season.
