Spring and Summer are the time to take on new discoveries and learning opportunities for personal and professional development. Our adult classes encourage new skills, creativity and expression.

The summer youth workshops and camps open new learning horizons in a university setting. Children’s camps are about fun, excitement and creativity.

We offer a range of classes and learning options including evening and weekend classes, part-time study, and online delivery.

For your lifelong learning we offer noncredit classes for Personal and Professional Development and credit classes through Open Studies

Open Studies (University Credit)If you want to test-drive some of our credit classes, get a head start on your credential or take a few classes for personal interest, then browse through our Open Studies Section (page 19) to see what’s available. There are no admission criteria for Open Studies classes; however you are required to meet all applicable prerequisites and co-requesites.

Apply to Open StudiesFirst time Open Studies students must apply online at www.ApplyAlberta.ca and pay an application fee before enrolling. You should apply at least five days prior to the start of any class. Students are sent a Network ID and password. These are used to login to www.myMacEwan.ca and enrol and pay tuition online using myStudentSystem. Students who have taken a credit class at MacEwan University in the past do not need to apply and can enrol directly through myStudentSystem. If your Network ID login is not active, call 780-497-5000 to have your account re-activated.

Withdrawals | To withdraw from a course in person, complete, sign and submit a withdrawal form to the Registrar’s Office. Art Fundamentals: Introduction to Art and Portfolio PreparationThis is an introductory course that covers the principles of drawing, sculpture and design. Although the course is specifically intended to serve the needs of students who are preparing portfolios for fine art programs, anyone interested in a general introduction to the visual arts is welcome to attend. Projects may include principles of composition based on an abstract plaster sculpture; a series of figure drawings that cover aspects of anatomy, proportion, and observation; a still life project that focuses on tonal drawing; and a mixed media project that deals with principles of formal unity. Beginner’s Path to Drawing in PencilAnyone can learn to draw! This short course offers you a chance to acquire and develop basic drawing skills. Art in JulyThese week-long camps are designed for youth interested in exploring art from digital photography to digital design. Camps are hands-on and project-based under the direction of a practicing artist or professional in their field, and include an exhibition or screening of student work, field trips and/or artist and designer talks.

Digital Photography (AGE 13+) Create strong, expressive photographs!
