machine
DESCRIPTION
As part of a work based learning project set by Studio Julia, the challenge of this brief was to only use one typeface. In this case it was Machine ITC which would also provide the theme for the content of the publication. I wanted to convey a tone filled with dark humour which also illustrated the curious behavior of mankind and our attitudes towards technology.TRANSCRIPT

The lethal injection system, linked up to an ordinary laptop computer, was used during the short-lived period of legalised euthanasia in Australia’s Northern Territory. Dr Philip Nitschke, a campaigner who pushed for the legislation in the first place, atached a needle to the patients’ arm and they were then asked three times by the computer whether they wanted to go ahead....12

Are you certain you understand that if you proceed and press the ‘yes’ button on the next screen that you wil die?”
17
this actual machine helped four people die in australia’s northern territory, in accordance with state law which which came into effect in 1996. within a few months this law had been overturned to make euthanasia illegal.
the name of the software that powered this machine was called deliverance.
If they pressed “yes”, a fatal dose of drugs was delivered to the patient.

brain sucker removal system
the bs-1 brain sucking removal system for removing all the material in brain cavity. avoids contaminating heads and saves cheek meat. eliminates placing corks in heads avoiding any brain seepage.
22
lung gun
pneumatically controlled gun for high speed vacum removal of poultry lungs and kidneys. ideally suited for removal of chicken, turkey, duck and geese lungs and kidneys.
23
head dropper
the head dropper quickly and easily severs the head from butcher hogs, sows, boars and beef. a single operator can handle up to 1200 hogs an hour.
24
carcass splitter
electrically powered bandsaw for splitting cattle, pigs and sows. Smaller and better handling for optimum performance in the most demanding applications (up to 180 beef / hour).
25
pneumatic stunner
pneumatically operated high speed, non- penetrating stunner for cattle and veal. Unique design renders the stunned animal insensible to pain, without penetrating the skull. Fires only once - no multiple firing needed.
26
chicken and hock neck cutter
pneumatically powered hock and neck cutter for chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese and game birds. No springs - pneumatic blade closing and opening insures no down time due to spring failure.
27
hydraulic powered guillotine style dehorner. Cuts all types of beef horns closer to the skull than traditional shear type dehorners. 1.5 second cycle for high speed production.

28
spinal cord sheath remover
spinal cord and mis-split remover for beef or pork. Latest patented technology for grinding away BSE risk material, including the spinal cord, which is under the mis-split, and the meninges (spinal cord).
29
pneumatically operated toe web cutter for hogs. Completely removes glands and hair, regardless of carcass weight. One piece clevis for better hygiene.

30
bone cutter
hydraulically powered aitch bone cutter for hogs. Cuts hog and sow aitch bones cleanly and effortlessly. This high production tool allows a single operator to separate the aitch bone of 1200 hogs per hour.
31
32
Latest technology in automatic hog splitting, capable of 650 per hour. Higher production rates. Faster line operations. Uniform feather bone division. Easier spinal cord removal.

the u.s. space program, worried about the harmfuleffects of rocket flight on astronauts, ordered vibration tests that used cockpit seats mounted on vibration tables to transfer ‘brown note’ and other frequencies directly to the human subjects.
very high power levels of160db were achieved atfrequencies of 2 - 3hz.test frequencies ranged from 0.5hz to 40hz. test subjects suffered motor ataxia, visual disturbance, degraded task performanceand difficulties in communication.

when speakers attack!
a coroner recorded a verdict of natural causes, saying the student was killed by sudden arhythmic death sydrome (sads), a heart disorder which kills 12 young people a week. cardiac experts said the bass could have triggered sads if mr reid had underlying, yet unknown, genetic problems.
on september 27 2009 student tom reid collapsed at a party and died after complaining the loud music was ‘getting to his heart’.
54
‘My heart feels funny. I think the bass is affecting me. Oh God, I feel very weird. My heart is beating so fast.’
ellen mason, senior cardiac nurse at the british heart foundation, said: ‘some genetic conditions that causesads can be triggered by stress or noise. he was suddenly exposed to a lot of loud noise and it is highlypossible that this caused the attack.’
