FILMPOND Finalist. . . WOW!
Congratulations to Ms Karen Miller, who was very busy last
Semester making short films, working with FilmPond. The
films are about some of the fantastic teaching happening at
MFPS and are available for viewing on our school website:
www.macfields-p.schools.nsw.edu.au
One of her films: STEAM was nominated in the top 5 films
produced by teachers all over NSW. Thank you again to
Ms Karen Miller and the teachers and students involved in
the FilmPond short films.
MFPS Breaking News….
It was wonderful to see so many parents coming for an interview yesterday and I am sure many more will be coming this evening and throughout the week. If you have not made an appointment please see your teacher. Thank you also to everyone for your warm welcome back to me after my leave last term. I have been so happy catching up with everyone.
Parents, grandparents and friends, our K-2 classes are looking for some volunteer helpers to assist in classrooms. You do not have to have a child in those classes you help out in. Please see Mrs Sharon Macpherson (Kinder), Mrs Norris (Year 1), Mrs Cheney (Year 2) or come to the office if you can assist us.
Spelling Bee finalists will be decided by Monday the 7th of August so keep practising your spelling.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at our Education Open Day next Wednesday, 2nd August. We will be holding a Book Fair as part of Book Week all next week. Our students have worked hard to produce some stunning pieces of work for a Gallery display that will be open in the hall. All work is based upon books we have been reading. Thank you to Ingleburn Rotary for organising the BBQ to help us raise funds. You may want to enjoy a sausage sandwich for lunch- $2.00.

End of Term 3
Remember: 1. If your child is absent, please contact the school. You must provide a reason for their absence on a note on their first day of return to school. If they are off sick for more than 2 days, please provide a medical certificate.
2. If you are making online payments for excursions etc, you must still return the permission note to your child’s class teacher.
Rule of the Week: Co-operate! Congratulations to the following playground winners of a canteen vouchure: Wania in 2/3 Safari, Ali in 1 Jamberoo, Mereseini in 3 Italy and Tahya in 1 Jamberoo.
Teachers will be on the look out for students who are cooperating in the playground and classroom. Cooperate means to get along with others, to work well together towards a common goal. This common goal is to maximise learning opportunities.
Think about what you can do in the classroom, in the play-ground and even at home to co-operate more with others.
Wakakirri Performance: Friday 18th August
Thank you to Mrs Ward and Ms Thorn and all of the other teachers and parents who are helping our students prepare for the Wakakirri Story Dance Competition. They still need some white business shirts and grey, long trousers in sizes 8-14 If you can lend or donate any of these, please see Mrs Ward. Tickets can be ordered through Ticketmaster for 18/8/17 at the WIN Entertainment Centre on PH: 136100.

The highest fundraising class in infants was: 2 Cairns and in primary was 3/4 Bermuda and they en-joyed their pizza party prize!
This fundraiser has resulted in 2 iPads being organised for every class in the school. Great job everyone!
Library News from the Library Team
Our biggest event of the year is drawing closer. In Week 3, our annual “BOOK FAIR” will take place. There will be books for everyone from Kindergarten to Year 6 available for purchase to either take home or donate to our school Library. A huge thankyou to the Renuse Family for their kind donation of books to our Library.
News from 5 Rosewell
This week in 5 Roswell, we have been investigating different shape and number patterns. Our class was very interested in how the Fibonacci sequence could be seen in nature; such as in the number of petals on flowers and the spiral shape of a snail’s shell. We decided to experiment and see if there were patterns in the number of seeds in different fruits and vegetables. The fresh foods we investigated included bananas, apples, oranges, lem-ons, capsicums and tangelos! One thing our class discovered was that each apple that was cut up had three seeds inside!
Our class learned how to safely cut fruit and vegetables, identify number patterns, give a clear, verbal procedure and draw a cross-section of some different fruit and vegetables. During the investi-gation, students were also given the opportunity to try some of the beautiful fresh fruit, bought locally!
After School Sports Program
After school sports groups are now full and will run until Week 10. Netball is on Monday afternoons from 3-4pm in Area D and Basketball is on Thursday afternoons from 3-4pm in Area D. After School Sport will go ahead each week unless we have heavy rain. Please ring the school on ph: 96051024, if you are in doubt as to whether or not it is cancelled. Ms Van der Ree and Ms Baxter will be supervising.
NAIDOC Day Fun had at our Koomurri Incursion
Our indigenous brothers and sisters celebrated NAIDOC Week in the first week of the school holidays – 2 July to 9 July. This year’s National NAIDOC theme was ‘Our Languages Matter’. The importance, resil-ience and richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages were the focus of national celebra-tions marking NAIDOC Week. The theme - Our Languages Matter - aimed to emphasize and celebrate the unique and essential role that our Indigenous languages play in cultural identity, linking people to their land and water and in the transmission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, spirituality and rites, through story and song.
For more information about NAIDOC Week such as NAIDOC history, the meaning of the indigenous Australian flags and other details of how this week was celebrated, visit http://www.naidoc.org.au

MFPS Book Fair - Wednesday, 2nd August, 2017.
Our biggest event of the year is right around the corner! Our ‘BOOK FAIR’ will take place
next week. There will be books for everyone from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Parents may purchase books for their child to keep or to donate books to our school Library. If
you choose to donate books, each book will have a book plate placed on the inside cover ac-
knowledging your generous donation. Children will be able to visit the library before BOOKFAIR
begins and write down their own WISHLIST to take home and discuss with parents.
Our Library monitors will be selling ‘BOOKWORMS’ every day during lunch and recess, com-
mencing this week. Our ‘BOOKWORMS’ are bags of sour worms for you to munch on whilst
reading books.
During our ‘BOOKFAIR’ we will be running a raffle. Each ticket will cost $2. The prize for
our raffle is a Lego ‘WeDo2’ robot. Children will be shown the ‘WeDo2’ robot during library clas-
ses this week. This is a prize that most children will want to have!
The robot provides real-world science projects, including engineering, technology and coding,
students experience how science comes to life. ‘WeDo’ 2.0 builds students’ confidence to ask
questions, define problems and design their own solutions, by putting discovery in their hands
and their minds. Ignite students’ curiosity and enhance their skills in science, engineering, tech-
nology and coding.
Guessing Competition…with a difference! Instead of guessing the usual lollies in a jar,
you will need to guess the pages in a book! However,
you will not be able to see the book as it will be covered
up. It will cost 50c per guess. Just see our school lead-
ers and library monitors during recess time.
Wednesday will be very exciting with dressing up as
your favourite book character and open classrooms.
Our library will be open all day so parents can browse
through and maybe purchase a book or two. Please
don’t forget our donation table. We have purchased
some quality books that all children can enjoy borrowing
during library lessons. They include books by Deborah
Ellis, Tim Winton and Robert Muchamore.
Wishing everyone a great week at our BOOKFAIR.
