Madinat al Fahaheel
Al Fahaheel, Kuwait
3107.KUW2007 Award Cycle
Client: Tamdeen Real Estate Company
Built Area: 163’733 m²
Cost: US$ 162’510’000
Dhow sails, Bedouin tents and fishing nets are just a few of the images evoked by the forms of this mixed-use redevelopment of an old fishing harbour. The main component is Al-Kout, a shopping and entertainment district that ‘integrates modern mall architecture with Kuwait’s traditional souks’. The adjacent renovated Al-Manshar complex combines shopping and entertainment facilities with offices, four residential towers, a hotel and parking. Exteriors are finished mainly in synthetic render in a variety of earth-mud hues. Interior elements such as wave-patterned blue floor tiles and sand-coloured metal signage express the place’s relationship to the sea.
