CHARITY
The American Cancer Society (ACS) became an official charity of the Madison Marathon in 2007. As part of this new partnership ACS implemented their Charity Runner Program. Through individual participant donations and the Charity Runner fundraising, over $50,000 was raised for cancer research and support programs .
Additionally, the Madison Marathon donated another $10,000+ to support ACS and other local non-profit groups in 2008.
We are pleased to have ACS join us in 2010 with Team DetermiNation. ACS will provide between 50 and 100 volunteers for the event.
VOLUNTEERS
It takes over 1,000 volunteers to make the Madison Marathon run smoothly. Given this, we have to look outside American Cancer Society to staff all the positions required.
Madison Festivals provides an opportunity for local charitable organizations to raise money. We utilize volunteers from our area non-profit organizations to work our events. In exchange, we pay these organizations a minimum of $8 for every hour a volunteer works. This model has proven beneficial for the events because it helps us recruit volunteers, but it also helps non-profit organizations raise needed funds.
