Sodexo Spring Survey URL: http://vcil.cc/1otpz3o School of Business Launches Innovation Lab The Innovation Lab, in the Maertens Building, opened February 23. It houses three-dimensional (3-D) printers, virtual re- ality goggles, and other cutting-edge technology. "We're using it as a sandbox for experimenting with new technologies – a maker space, an innovation hub," said Phillip Olla, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Research and professor of management information systems at Madonna. Beginning this fall semester, the new Emerging Trends in Computer Technol- ogy and Applications class will use the Innovation Lab for class and assign- ments. In addition to 3-D design and printing, students will be able to exper- iment with virtual reality, augmented reality, and designing infographics. The I Lab was funded by a generous grant from Bill Harahan, president of the Michael F. McManus Foundation, for the purpose of enhancing Madon- na's research community. Want to make Madonna’s Food Service Better? It was brought to our attention that the water from some of the restroom faucets and drinking fountains, in the Main Administra- tion Building, was discolored, so we have had it tested in various locations. The inspector has indicated that chlorine levels are fi- ne, and there is no cause for alarm. Water testing is ongoing in the College of Education wing, Nurs- ing Simulation Lab and other areas. We will update you with the results of the testing. Until then, and to be super cautious, we ad- vise that you not use discolored water for drinking. There is filtered water in the dispenser outside the Office of the President. If you use a faucet or fountain and the water is discolored, please report it to Jody Batway at ext. 5744 or [email protected]. The Spring Job Fair will happen on April, 4 from 3pm to 6pm and it will take place on the activities center/gym. The Job Fair will have over 50 registered employers that will offer part-time and full-time opportunities for our students. Madonna BCA Students and Pro- gram Director Suzanne Boyd are learning outside the classroom in L.A. this week. Last week, one of our alumni, who is a producer for James Corden’s Late, Late Show, got the Madon- na group prime seating for the show that airs tonight at half past midnight, (so really Wednesday a.m.) on CBS. The guests are Kerry Washington and Alec Baldwin, but if you tune in, watch for these familiar faces in the audience. The students are pictured here with actress Dee Wallace, best known as the mom, Mary, in E.T. Want to have the chance of help Madonna University to improve and also to get a gift card? Madonna University wants to know what is important for our stu- dents and how satisfied they are with their current campus expe- riences! Career Services Spirit of Detroit: Urbanism and Imagination March 29, 2016 Deborah Lubera Kawsky, Art Historian, Ph.D. While the city of Detroit was named for its riverfront site, it is the public spaces of the city -- populated with sculptures, murals and architectural masterpieces -- that have captured the imagination of artists, architects, urban planners, and civic leaders for centuries. Join art historian, Deborah Lubera Kawsky, for a virtual tour of Detroit’s past, present, and future urban development, from the civic plans of Augustus Woodward (1805) and Eero Saarinen (1943-51) to the futuristic concepts for Detroit sites like the Dequindre Cut and the Packard Plant, unveiled at the Venice Biennale in 2016. We all know that the “spirit of Detroit” is alive and well today – rediscover its history and evolution! This lecture coincides with an exhibition to be held at Detroit’s MOCAD (Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit), entitled “The Architectural Imagination,” which runs from February 11, 2017 until April 16, 2017. The exhibition was organized for the US Pavil- ion at the 15 th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2016 Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy. Deborah Lubera Kawsky received her Ph.D. in Art History from Princeton University in 1991. She has lectured on art historical topics in museums, universities and libraries throughout the Metro Detroit area for more than 20 years. While the city of Detroit was named for its riverfront site, it is the public spaces of the

city -- populated with sculptures, murals and architectural masterpieces -- that have

captured the imagination of artists, architects, urban planners, and civic leaders for

centuries. Join art historian, Deborah Lubera Kawsky, for a virtual tour of Detroit’s

past, present, and future urban development, from the civic plans of Augustus
