How different our lives are when we really know what is deeply important to us,
and keeping that picture in mind, we manage ourselves each day to be and
to do what really matters most.

School of Business Launches Innovation Lab
The Innovation Lab, in the Maertens Building, opened February 23. It houses
three-dimensional (3-D) printers, virtual re-
ality goggles, and other cutting-edge
technology. "We're using it as a sandbox
for experimenting with new technologies –
a maker space, an innovation hub," said
Phillip Olla, Ph.D., Director of the Center for
Research and professor of management
information systems at Madonna.
Beginning this fall semester, the new Emerging Trends in Computer Technol-
ogy and Applications class will use the Innovation Lab for class and assign-
ments. In addition to 3-D design and printing, students will be able to exper-
iment with virtual reality, augmented reality, and designing infographics.
The I Lab was funded by a generous grant from Bill Harahan, president of
the Michael F. McManus Foundation, for the purpose of enhancing Madon-
na's research community.
Want to make Madonna’s Food Service Better?
It was brought to our attention that the water from some of the
restroom faucets and drinking fountains, in the Main Administra-
tion Building, was discolored, so we have had it tested in various
locations. The inspector has indicated that chlorine levels are fi-
ne, and there is no cause for alarm.
Water testing is ongoing in the College of Education wing, Nurs-
ing Simulation Lab and other areas. We will update you with the
results of the testing. Until then, and to be super cautious, we ad-
vise that you not use discolored water for drinking.
There is filtered water in the dispenser outside the Office of the
President.
If you use a faucet or fountain and the water is discolored,
please report it to Jody Batway at ext. 5744
The Spring Job Fair will happen on April, 4 from 3pm to 6pm and
it will take place on the activities center/gym. The Job Fair will
have over 50 registered employers that will offer part-time and
full-time opportunities for our students.

Madonna BCA Students and Pro-
gram Director Suzanne Boyd are
learning outside the classroom in
L.A. this week.
Last week, one of our alumni, who
is a producer for James Corden’s
Late, Late Show, got the Madon-
na group prime seating for the
show that airs tonight at half past midnight, (so really Wednesday a.m.) on
CBS. The guests are Kerry Washington and Alec Baldwin, but if you tune in,
watch for these familiar faces in the audience. The students are pictured
here with actress Dee Wallace, best known as the mom, Mary, in E.T.
Want to have the chance of help Madonna University to improve
and also to get a gift card?
Madonna University wants to know what is important for our stu-
dents and how satisfied they are with their current campus expe-
riences!
To do so, we are asking our students to take the Ruffalo Noel
Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI), which is a survey that
will let us how to improve and promote a better experience for
our students. The results will be shared campus wide.
Starting on March 20, we highly encourage you to take the sur-
vey to help us to improve.
Thank you!

Spirit of Detroit:
Urbanism and Imagination
March 29, 2016
Deborah Lubera Kawsky, Art Historian, Ph.D.
While the city of Detroit was named for its riverfront site, it is the public spaces of the
city -- populated with sculptures, murals and architectural masterpieces -- that have
captured the imagination of artists, architects, urban planners, and civic leaders for
centuries. Join art historian, Deborah Lubera Kawsky, for a virtual tour of Detroit’s
past, present, and future urban development, from the civic plans of Augustus
Woodward (1805) and Eero Saarinen (1943-51) to the futuristic concepts for Detroit
sites like the Dequindre Cut and the Packard Plant, unveiled at the Venice Biennale
in 2016. We all know that the “spirit of Detroit” is alive and well today – rediscover its
history and evolution!
This lecture coincides with an exhibition to be held at Detroit’s MOCAD (Museum of
Contemporary Art Detroit), entitled “The Architectural Imagination,” which runs from
February 11, 2017 until April 16, 2017. The exhibition was organized for the US Pavil-
ion at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2016 Venice Biennale in
Venice, Italy.
Deborah Lubera Kawsky received her Ph.D. in Art History from Princeton University in
1991. She has lectured on art historical topics in museums, universities and libraries
throughout the Metro Detroit area for more than 20 years. She is currently complet-
ing a book on mid-century modern architect and designer, Alexander Girard, to be
published by Wayne State Press in 2018.
