“The Mouth of Truth” In Rome is the Bocca della Verità (“the Mouth of Truth”) in the Church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. It is ac-tually an antique Roman drain cover carved in the form of a mask with an

open mouth, but people have come to regard it as an incorruptible judge. Those acting in good faith can put their hands into the mouth without fear, but those who tell lies, whose consciences are not quite as spotless and who challenge the “Mouth of Truth” by putting their hand into its mouth run the risk of seeing the mouth snap shut and finding their hand amputated! People queue for hours to put their hands into the mouth, especially courting couples! A man from Budapest was joking about the possibility of his hand being clamped in the mouth. I said to reas-sure him, “Perhaps it does not happen right away”. It is true that the mills of God grind slowly, but surely. The Judgement of God does not always happen over-night but people eventually face the consequences of their actions, even it takes to eternity. Sometimes I not only think about my own actions but I get very concerned about the state of Britain today and the evils in society, including slavery and people traffick-ing, that God sees and waits to judge. But the truth will always come to light and what is hidden in darkness will come to light. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Thank God for Jesus Christ who died on a cross to forgive the sins of all the world when people turn to him in penitence. He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life” (John 14: 6). As Christians we are a new creation in Him. Graham Gittings Associate Minister

Dear Friends, The Pharisees had a heart condition that grieved Jesus. Their hearts were hard and insensitive. If you'll look in Mark 3, you'll see what we’re talking about. God was right there in their midst, and they, of all people, should have realized it. They knew the Scriptures backward and forward, and Jesus fits every messianic prophecy written there. But the in-sensitivity of their hearts literally blinded them to who He was. The hearts of the Pharisees were also hardened to the needs of the people around them. That very same thing is still happening today. Just think again about what those Pharisees were doing. They were:

1. Criticizing the minister of God. 2. Protecting their religious traditions instead of obeying the Word of God. 3. Worrying about their own welfare rather than that of those around them.

Have you ever known any believers who fit that description? Sure you have! In fact, every one of us has done those things at some time in our lives. Each one of us, to one degree or another, has fallen prey to the same mistake the Pharisees did. We've gotten so caught up in doing and saying all the "right" things that we've let the tender warmth of God's love inside us grow cold. I know that's true because if it weren't, we'd be seeing tremendous moves of God among us. We'd be seeing revival on every corner. That's what God longs to do. God longs to pour out His Spirit in supernatural power and abundance through His Church. But we've developed a heart condition that's holding Him back. Today if you are desiring an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in your life and the manifestation of His power in your home and Church, check the condition of your heart. If you find any hardness there, repent and ask God to change you. Ask Him to give you the kind of heart that will allow Him to show Himself strong on your behalf. God bless you as you draw close to Him. George and Joyce Irwin. We warmly welcome Pastor George to our team of Churches this September as he visits us from 8th to 14th and speaks at a Shared Benefice Service at St. Andrew’s on Sunday 13th. Please keep Pastor George in your prayers as he travels, and also his wife Joyce and sons Amen and Chironi, for many blessings in their lives and ministries in India and the communities that they visit.

The Church of England have released prayers for use when Her Majesty The Queen becomes the longest reigning monarch in British history. Almighty God, who hast set our gracious sovereign Queen Elizabeth upon the throne of this realm, and given her to surpass all others in the years of her reign: Receive our heartfelt thanks for her service to her people, confirm and encourage her in the continuance of the same, and keep her in thy heavenly wisdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who took the form of a servant for our sake, and reigneth now in glory with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen. Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ exchanged the glory of a heavenly throne for the form of a servant, we thank you that you have given Elizabeth our Queen a heart to serve her people, and have kept her devoted in this service beyond all who were before her: encourage us by her example to serve one another, and to seek the common good, until you call us all to reign with Christ in your eternal kingdom. Amen. (above prayer drawing on Philippians 2)

‘I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.’

1 Timothy 2 v 1-4

The Queen is set to become the longest ever reigning monarch in British history. On 9th September 2015, she will pass the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria came to the throne aged 18 and died in 1901 when she was 81. Buckingham Pal-ace have calculated she reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and 23 minutes over 63 years. But Elizabeth II, who be-came Queen aged 25 in 1952, is set to enter the history books when she overtakes Victoria this September. The Queen is already in the record books after becoming the longest living monarch. According to Guinness World Re-cords, she also holds the world record for most currencies featuring the same individual. [Source: www.itv.com/news]

Please join us in prayer for the appointment process of the next Bishop of Lichfield, as Bishop Jonathan retires this month. Please pray for an appointment in the legacy of St. Chad, the first Bishop of Lichfield, appointed in 669AD in what was then the Diocese of Mercia, in being a person who is evangelical, committed, sacrificial in living, prayerful and clear and passionate in teaching. Please see the below information from the Diocese of Lichfield to help inform for prayer. Please pray for wisdom and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in all decisions made throughout the process. Please also pray for Bishop Jonathan and his wife Jane as they retire to Kent.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the LORD has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth.

He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth.

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.”

The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Pray for Pastor Augustine Jayraj and Two Christians Beaten by Hindu Radicals - India Hindu radicals in India beat Pastor Augustine Jayraj and two other Christian men and had them arrested by local police on July 23 be-cause of their Christian outreach to a village. A group of 20 RSS mem-bers stopped the Jesus film partway through the video, locked the three men in a room and called police. The men were beaten, arrested and charged with forced conversions. Pray that the pastor and these Christian workers will be able to continue their ministry. Pray for South Sudanese Pastors Yat Michael and Peter Yen - Sudan Two South Sudanese pastors on trial in Sudan for serious criminal charges, including “spying,” which carried the death penalty, were freed on Aug. 5. Pastors Yat Michael and Peter Yen were convicted on less serious charges, but the judge ordered that they be released due to time served. It is believed that they were arrested and charged with these crimes as a result of their connection with a persecuted church in Sudan. Continue to pray for these pastors and their families who still face persecution for their Christian faith. Pray for a Family of Believers Who Escaped Islamic Militants - Syria A Christian family was forced to flee their home in Syria when Islamic militants raided their village. The militants took the family’s belongings, destroyed crosses and demol-ished their home. The family was among a group of 10 people who walked for days through the wilderness, eating grass to survive because there was no food. They finally arrived in another village approximately 15 miles away, where they met up with a VOM partner who has helped them get into shelter. The family has very little, but refused to give up their faith. Pray for the family, especially their children who are very discour-aged by the living conditions. Pray for Christian Outreach Team Ministering to Refugees - Iraq A VOM-supported team of Christian workers continues to provide aid to Iraqis who were forced to flee their homes because of violence and threats from Islamic extrem-ists. Eighty families from Yezidi and Shabak backgrounds will soon be able to relocate to a recently completed building sponsored by VOM. Pray for the Christian workers as they share the gospel in this area. Pray for Asia Bibi; Death Sentence Suspended Pending Court Review - Pakistan Asia Bibi’s death sentence for blasphemy was suspended on July 22 by a panel of judges in Pakistan. The case against the Christian woman will be thoroughly reviewed by the country’s Supreme Court before a final ruling is made. A date for the new hearing has not yet been announced. A VOM worker in Pakistan wrote, “By the grace of God, this is a big achievement. This is an answer to the prayers of people around the world.”
