Magazine Advert

Analysis

Marina and the Diamonds• A picture of the artist is placed in

the centre of the advert bringing importance to that. This is because the singer she is recognisable, there is also a picture of her on the album cover at the bottom of the advert

• All the text on the advert is written in the same font which brings consistency and synergy to not just this advert but to the entire promotion of the artist and the album (adverts, album etc.)

• The bottom of the advert contains all the information regarding release date, what songs are on the album and where someone could buy it. This placement is conventional for magazine adverts, this allows someone seeing this to first see the artist name and picture

• Key songs that the artist has already released are shown on the advert showing the audience what they have done as this will be recognisable. Her new single ‘Shampain’ is written in a bigger font that links with the font that is used for the artists name and what is used on the album, this brings focus and attention to what this is trying to advertise

Noah and the Whale• A review is featured at the

bottom of the poster, this conventional for magazine adverts as it will attract audiences to listen to their music. If someone else gives them a good review, especially a well known company like Q, a new audience is more likely to try it.

• The colours in the advert evoke what genre the band might be (indie). Light colours like cream and blue with a vintage effect over the image give a sense to whoever looks at it what their music may sound like

• The image includes the instrument which is presumed to have been used in their music, a piano. This is typical for the genre and therefore helps show the audience whether it could appeal to them

Jay-Z• Unconventionally this advert

doesn’t feature the image of the artist but it still represents the brand of the artist well through the use of colour and images which evokes the urban style of his music and brand

• The bottom of the advertisement include songs from the artist which are particularly familiar to a wide audience, this helps attract people to purchasing their new music. Audiences like to find things in advertisements that are familiar to them and are therefore more likely to buy them

• Jay-Z, being a mainstream and high profile artist, has included his own website on the advert, jay-z.com. This website would give more information about the artist and his music for the audience, which gives an audience more than just the advertisement to be involved in

• While the name of the album is included, it is mainly represented by the 3 red lines which makes it immediately stand out against other adverts
