1. Having one large image makes the articles seem less formal, creating a relaxed atmosphere which allows the reader to enjoy their reading more. Having one large image also makes it more obvious what the article is about, in this case attracting fans of the artist (lady gaga.) Double page spreads are often directly related to the magazine being a special edition or the main cover line. In this case the main cover line would have been to do with lady gaga. The image uses direct gaze which makes the interview seem more personal and directly addressed to the reader makes the magazine seem more personal and directly addressed to the reader.

2. When a picture is taken and used in a magazine they have to use a photographer credit. This is often a small notice naming the photographer and his/her company. The photographers credit is commonly small and at the bottom of the page or in the corner of the picture so as to be out of the way, but still relatively easy to find.

3. In many magazines paragraphs are started having the first letter of the first word four or five times larger than the rest of the text used in the main article. This is done for a number of reasons; firstly, it makes the articles seem more attractive and less formal- allowing the reader to enjoy it more. Secondly, it attracts attention to the article, which could otherwise be passed over as its surrounding are so large. Finally it emphasises a new topic being started within the article, while normally a new paragraph would be used this shows a bigger break from the topic than a new paragraph, while still relating to the article.

4) Printing the website address is essential to building a customer base. The more the reader can relate the article and content to the magazine itself the more likely they are to buy the same magazine again. This also means that the reader is more likely to visit the website, which in turn will build on the base built by the magazine- offering exclusive offers and deals to their visitors.

5) The page number is large and easily noticeable as it stands out from the background, this indicates that the page is especially significant to the issue- which further enforce the idea that the double page spread would be directly related to the main cover line as it would need to be easily found.

6) Printing the logo is essential to building a customer base. The more the reader can relate the article and content to the magazine itself the more likely they are to buy the same magazine again. This is because as they are reading it they are aware of the logo and link the magazine to the content.

7) The font is small compared to the rest of the text (around size 12/14) but large compared to the size used in other medias. This creates a more serious atmosphere- contradicting the previously established friendly relationship with the reader. This is because it is the main and most important thing on the page- the reason the reader is reading and so is more important and gives over a lot of information in a short space of time. Informal language is used which both makes the magazine seem personal to the reader and encourages the to buy the same magazine again, for the tone and style of the magazine, whereas other techniques focus on the content.

8) Having the name of the artist at the top of the page makes it clear what/who the article is about and further explains the main image. This could also be used to attract other readers who are familiar with the artist, but ay not have seen them or not recognise them from the photo.

9) The large ‘L’ is in front of the text, while having it still legible. This emphasises the connection between the magazine and the artist, connoting exclusivity and makes the artist seem more accessible to the reader. This makes the reader feel important to the magazine, this personalisation of a mass produced magazine is essential to creating repeat business.

1) Having one large image makes the articles seem less formal, creating a relaxed atmosphere which allows the reader to enjoy their reading more. Having one large image also makes it more obvious what the article is about, in this case attracting fans of the artist (Davey Havok.) Double page spreads are often directly related to the magazine being a special edition or the main cover line. In this case the main cover line would have been to do with Davey Havok. The image uses direct gaze which makes the interview seem more personal and directly addressed to the reader makes the magazine seem more personal and directly addressed to the reader

2) The ‘news’ logo suggests exclusivity, while also encouraging readers to visit their website. This means that readers better connect the content with the magazine itself and coupled with the informal language and friendly tone used makes the reader feel more relaxed and allows them to enjoy the magazine more.

3) When a picture is taken and used in a magazine they have to use a photographer credit. This is often a small notice naming the photographer and his/her company. The photographers credit is commonly small and at the bottom of the page or in the corner of the picture so as to be out of the way, but still relatively easy to find.

5) The page number is relatively small on this page, this may be because the other aspects of the page remove the need for emphasis of what page it is. The double page spread is often to o with the ain cover line so the may have used a similar quote in both the article and the cover line. This would establish a connection between the two and allow more space for the article and pictures.

6) The font is small compared to the rest of the text (around size 12/14) but large compared to the size used in other medias. This creates a friendly atmosphere- coupled with informal language it seems to establish a friendly relationship with the reader. This both makes the magazine seem personal to the reader and encourages the to buy the same magazine again, for the tone and style of the magazine, whereas other techniques focus on the content.

7) A small summary of the interview is given which gives more information on the main cover line and further informs the reader as to whether or not the want to read the article. This summary also uses pull quotes which gives credit to it, giving the reader a taste of what is to come before they read the full article.

8) Having the name of the artist at the top of the page makes it clear who the interview is with and anchors the main image. This could also be used to attract other readers who are familiar with the artist, but ay not have seen them or not recognise them from the photo.

9) The use of pull quotes gives credit to the title and summary, giving the reader a taste of what is to come before they read the full article. The pull quote is an advertisement that shows what is in the article and gives an insight into the artist’s personality. This then makes the interview seem more personal and directly addressed to the reader- despite direct address not being used.

1) Having a running theme or special edition gives exclusivity to the article while explaining why a double page spread is used. Most double page spreads are to do with the main feature of the specific edition of the magazine.

2) Having the name of the artist at the top of the page makes it clear who the interview is with and anchors the main image. This could also be used to attract other readers who are familiar with the artist, but ay not have seen them or not recognise them from the photo.
