--------------------------------------------MastheadThe masthead is the largest text on the page so stands out from the rest. It is in a contrasting colour from background which makes it easy to read and, noticeable. The colours used and, the font fit into the house style. Different colours are used in the centre of the letters to make it look different and, fun suggesting what the magazine will be like inside. This appeals to the audience as that’s what they want from the magazine. It is seen in the background to main image suggesting the main image is a bigger selling point than the name of the magazine.

Main imageThe main image uses direct address as the model is looking straight at the audience almost pleading with them to buy it. It is placed in front of the masthead showing that she is very important for sales to the magazine and, that she is main reason people will buy it. She is dressed quite elegantly suggesting that the article may touch on serious issues. The image makes her look attractive appealing to the male audience.

Model creditThe model credit is in a large font in the centre of the page suggesting the star featured is very popular and well known, so people will instantly be drawn to the magazine. The model credit is in white texts so, matches the house style although the lettering is italic so, it stands out from the rest of the writing. It suggests the star is innocent and, peaceful.

CoverlinesThe coverlines are used to inform the reader the other major articles featured within the magazine to encourage them to buy it whether they like the cover star or not. These show the readers that it’s not just music articles featured in this magazine although not is the main topic so the audience know what they are getting. They follow the white and, black colour scheme and, the font matches the rest of the house style and looks professionally made.

Main cover lineThe main cover line informs the reader what the main article topic is going to be about and, makes them want to buy the magazine to find out what has happened. It suggests the interview inside will have facts about Rihanna that people never knew before. The text and, font use again match house style giving the magazine a professional look.

ColourThe main colour used is red which makes the cover stand out from others and, again makes it look fun and, interesting to read. The red could also connote she will talk about romance and, her relationships in the article. Black is used as the primary colour for the background suggesting that there is also a serious side to the article, which is backed up by the main coverline. It suggests she may be talking about a darker side of her life.

TypefacesThe typeface used fits into the house style and, the same font is used throughout. White is used for most of the text suggesting the writing inside won’t be difficult to read and, will be simple and, plain. The font looks professional showing that it is a serious magazine featuring serious articles.

Photography LightingThe red used during the photography connotes love and, also danger suggesting some of the themes the article may be about. Rihanna is viewed in high key lighting in the foreground making her stand out while the background uses low key lighting and, features roses which again connote love and romance. The background images are faded so they don’ blend with the foreground image.

Target AudienceThe main target audience is older teenagers and, young adults as they are most likely to be fans of the coverstar and, be interested in the articles featured within about technology. The magazine has a large demographic and will probably appeal to both genders as, males will like the appearance of the cover star while females are more likely to be fans of her music. The target audience would want the magazine to be a

House StyleThe house style uses text that looks professional throughout which, appeals to the target audience because they can see it will be a serious interview inside. The main colour scheme is white, red and black suggesting it will be easy to read, and the article may talk about romance and the bad times of the stars life.

Guttenberg’s Design Principle The masthead starts in the primary optical area so; it is the first thing the audience notice when they look at the magazine. The main coverline is in the terminal area which is the next thing people will see and, this will be a major selling point for the magazine so, it is placed appropriately. The masthead and main cover line stretch over into the weaker fallow areas, meaning it helps draw more attention to these areas. The barcode, price and other information are placed in a weak fallow area as this information isn’t seen as important to selling the magazine.
