Magazine features

All of the magazine covers have various features such as; Incentives, skyline, masthead, price, bar code, text, images, colour scheme. These features are important because they help to attract the right target audience, they let people know what the magazine is actually about, everything is chosen carefully like the colour scheme to attract readers and make parts of the magazine stand out, such as some of the story’s/ articles inside. Anchorage is text that is referred to the image it explains the purpose of the picture. Cover lines are very persuasive, they will try and lure readers into different stories rather than the main one, by using different language to entice and promote a certain mode of address. Mode of address is the way the magazine refers to its readers, the way the magazine communicates with their readers. Some magazines, such as children’s magazines use puffs, which will help to promote “freebies” or special features.

A few differences between the magazine covers are, they are all different genres, so they contain different information, the colour schemes are different like the fashion magazines are more pink and girly because women are the main target audience, the soap magazine has a lot more going on in the front cover because it is made out to be gossip, so it will attract readers, this is called secondary images because it attracts its readers by the use of pictures rather than the cover line text.

Front cover

The front cover of a magazine is very important because it is the first thing the

reader will see when they are choosing a magazine, therefore the front cover

needs to be eye catching, and appeal to the correct target audience for

example a soap magazine will have a lot of different story’s advertised on the

front, that will shock the readers and make them want to buy the

magazine, because it shows off a bit of the content. The readers will spend

time looking at the front of the magazine, so the front cover needs to be

enticing, and well designed. All magazines should have certain expected

conventions on them such as a skyline or a masthead, the masthead is

normally displayed at the very top of the magazine, this is one of the first

things that attracts the reader, and lets the reader know the contents of the

magazine and the genre.
