Preparing for Installation

• Before setting up the MagicInfo Premium server software for the first time, a few steps should be taken to ensure smooth installation: • Remove any versions of Java installed on the computer. MagicInfo I Premium will

install it’s own Java software.

• Ensure that Windows User Account Control (UAC) is turned off. This can be enabled after setup if required.

• Ensure that the Secondary Logon service is set to automatic startup, and running.

• Ensure that you are logged in as a Windows administrator, if at all possible.

How to Disable User Account Control (UAC)

User Account Control (UAC) can be disabled from the Control Panel of Windows Vista or Windows 7 systems.

1. Click on the Start button.

2. From the Start Menu, select “Control Panel” on the right hand side.

3. This will bring up the Control Panel window.

4. Click “User Accounts and Family Safety”

How to Enable the Secondary Logon Service

Secondary Logon will be used by Postgres to run the database system in the background.

1. Click the Start button.

2. Click on “All Programs”, “Accessories”, then “Run”.

3. Type in “services.msc” and click “OK”

4. This will bring up the Services window.

How to Enable the Secondary Logon Service

5. Scroll down to “Secondary Logon”

6. Right click on “Secondary Logon” and select “Properties”

7. This will display the properties for the Secondary Logon service.

How to Enable the Secondary Logon Service

8. Ensure that the “Startup Type” is set to “Automatic” in the drop down menu.

9. Press the “Start” button to enable the service.

10. Click “Apply”, then “OK”.

11. You can now close the Services window.

Required Software Components

• To install the Magic Info I Premium server, you will need two installation files:

• Postgres SQL

• MagicInfo I Premium Server software

• If at all possible, we recommend installing the latest version.

• This may not be contained on the CD that came with your display.

• Please go online to http://www.samsunglfd.com or http://samsung.brawnconsulting.com to download the latest versions of both programs.

• We will install the Postgres SQL software first, then the MagicInfo I Premium Server software.

Installing Postgres SQL

1. Begin by extracting the Postgres SQL .zip file to a folder. • Right click on the Postgres zip file, and select “Extract All”

• Click OK to extract the Postgres files to a folder in the same directory as the zip file.

2. Open the Postgres folder, and double click the “setup.bat” file.

3. This will start installation by adding a C++ runtime, if needed.

• Following runtime installation, the Postgres installation wizard will launch.

• Please note: We will not be changing any of the software settings during installation. We will only be supplying passwords.

• Postgres is going to create a user account to run in the background and provide access to the database. It will also create the initial database that we will use to store information for the MagicInfo I Premium server.

• Click “start” to proceed.

• Click “next” to advance the installation process 3 times.

• Do not change any settings on these screens.

• The 4th screen will be “Service Configuration”.

• On this page we will supply a password for the user account Postgres is going to create. Do not change any other settings.

• If you have a password policy on your computer due to a domain or group policy, your password will need to comply with this policy.

• Enter the password under both “Account Password” and “Verify Password”.

• Click “next” to proceed.

• The system will prompt you to create the user account. Click on “Yes”.

• The system will prompt you to generate a random password if your password is of low complexity, or “weak”.

• Do not click “yes”. This will generate a long random string of numbers and letters.

• Click “no”.

• The next window, “Initialize Database Cluster” will now create the database and it’s password.

• This password can be anything you would like it to be. We will need to provide it to the MagicInfo I Premium Server software later, so please make sure to remember this password.

• Enter your password into the “Password” and “Password Again” fields.

• Do not change any other settings.

• Click “next” to proceed.

• Please wait for the process to complete. The system will advance to the next screen automatically.

• Postgres installation is now complete.

• You can uncheck “Lanch Stack Builder at Exit”. The Stack Builder is not needed. If you do not uncheck this option, please close the Stack Builder when it launches. Do not change any settings in the Stack Builder.

• Click “Finish” to complete installation.

Installing the Server Software

• Once Postgres has been installed, the next step is to install the server software itself.

• The server software is a Windows based web server utility, working with Postgres, to supply the users with the web pages that make up the MagicInfo I Premium software user interface.

• The process for installing MagicInfo I Premium is fairly simple, following the prompts.

• Very little configuration is required.

• We will not be changing any settings, simply supplying information as needed.

• We will begin by running the server software installer.

• The first window requests you select the installation language.

• Click “OK” to proceed.

• The system will advance automatically to the next screen. You will see a loading bar as the system extracts the needed software.

• Click “Next” to proceed through the welcome screen.

• Check next to “I Accept” to accept the End User License Agreement.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The next screen requests the name and company for whom the system will be registered. Both fields must be filled out to advance. You can enter any values you would like.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The following screen will ask what setup type you would prefer. Click the radial button next to “Complete”.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The following screen will ask the path to install Java to. Please leave this setting as the default.

• The next screen will ask the folder where you installed the Postgres SQL software into. Please leave this setting as the default.

• The next screen will request the password you created for the Postgres database admin account. Enter the password in both fields.

• This is the password created for the Windows user account (the first password) created during Postgres installation. This is NOT the database administrator account password (second password).

• The following screen will ask for the name of the database you would like to create. Please leave this value as the default setting.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The next screen will ask for the port number the software will use to connect to the Postgres SQL database. Please leave this value as the default setting.

• The next screen will create a user within the Postgres SQL database to allow MagicInfo I Premium server software to access the database.

• Please enter the desired password into both fields.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The following two screens will ask for more information about the server configuration.

• The first will ask for the port to use for streaming service, if used.

• The second will confirm the FTP server configuration used to transfer content to and from the MagicInfo Server. Please leave these settings at the default.

• Click “Next” to proceed through both screens.

• The next screen will ask if you want to enable or disable SSL encryption.

• This method of connecting to the server will be more secure, ideal for Internet based systems, but will change the ports used for the software.

• Do not change this value unless you are sure you want to enable SSL encryption, and are comfortable dealing with the new port configuration.

• Refer to the MagicInfo I Premium port guide for reference to the new ports.

• The system will now go through a series of screens to create the administrator accounts you will actually use to log in to your MagicInfo I Premium Server.

• The next screen will ask for the Administrator (Username “admin”) password you would like to create. This password will allow for the Admin user to log in as the master server administrator. This is the highest level of account, and will have access to all functions of the server.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The following screen will allow you to enter the organization name.

• This name will identify the group who owns the digital signage system, and will be used as the top level group name for organizing displays.

• No spaces are allowed in the organization name.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The following screen will create an additional Administrator account.

• This account may be given to another user, to act as Administrator.

• This account will not have access to the licensing functions or advanced server settings.

• Enter the desired user name under “Administrator ID”. No spaces are allowed.

• Enter the desired password in both password fields.

• The next screen will ask for the full name for the new Administrator account created on the last screen. No spaces are allowed.

• Enter the administrator’s name, and valid email address in the fields.

• The email address will be used to notify the administrator if an alarm occurs.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The next screen will provide the option to enable or disable email notification on Alarm Occurrence within the server.

• This will allow the server to email one or more administrator contacts if a designated alarm condition is met.

• Click the radial button next to “Enable” or “Disable”.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• If you selected “Enable” for Alarm Occurrence on the last screen, the software will prompt you for the address of your SMTP (Outgoing) email server. Enter it into the field.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The next screen will display a summary of the settings you have selected.

• Click “Next” to proceed.

• The system will now install Java.

• There is nothing to configure here, simply click “Install” on the first screen, allow the system to install the software, and click “Close” when it is finished.

• MagicInfo I Premium server software installation will now resume.

• The system will automatically advance, and install all of the server software files.

• This screen will show a progress bar, detailing the progress of the installation.

• After finishing the installation, the system will display one final screen, prompting you to reboot your computer.

• Make sure the radial button next to “Yes, I want to restart my computer now.” is checked, and click “Finish”.

• Your computer will now reboot, and your MagicInfo I Premium server is now installed.

Accessing the Server Software

• To access your new MagicInfo I Premium server, you will need to use Internet Explorer (Versions 7 or newer).

• Open Internet Explorer, and navigate to the IP address of your server, using the following syntax:

• http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:7001/MagicInfo

• Replace the “xxx” with the IP address of your particular server computer.

• It is important to have the port (:7001) and directory (/MagicInfo) added to the address. It is case sensitive.
