MAGLEV TRAIN

Presented by:- Santosh ku jena

Mechanical engg

A few countries are using

powerful electromagnets to develop high-speed

trains, called maglev trains.

Maglev is short for magnetic levitation, which means that these trains will float over a guideway using the basic principles of magnets to replace the old steel wheel and track trains.

In other words Maglev trains are magnetically levitated trains that traverse in a very high spee

INTRODUCTION ABOUT MAGLEV

Maglev technology has used electromagnetic force to hold up the entire train compartments.

only electricity being its main source of energy.

The train propels or move forward without any friction from moving mechanical parts.

The beauty of maglevs is that they travel on air.

What is a magnet?

• It is simply an object which produces a magnetic field .

• North and South are the designations made to describe the two opposite poles.

• North is attracted to South and repelled by North.

• South is attracted to North and repelled by South

Basic Principle of Maglev Trains

Maglev trains have to perform the following functions to operate in high speeds.

1.Leviation

2.Propulsion

3.Lateral Guidance

1.Leviation system :-

Which is keeping the train suspended against the gravity by the force of the magnetic field.

2 .propulsion system:-

The propulsion coils located on the sidewalls on both sides of the guideway are energized by a 3 –phase alternating current from a subststion, creating magnetic field on the guide way.

The on boad superconducting magnets are attracted and pushed by the shifting field, propelling the maglev vechicle.

3.Lateral guidance system:-

Refers to the sideward forces that are required to make the vehicle follow the guideway.

Keep the train in the center due to the magnetic force.

1.EMS:- Electromagnetic suspension:

Uses attractive magnetic force of a magnet.

2.EDS:-Electrodynamic suspension:

Uses repulsive force between 2 magnetic fields.

INDIAPUNE PANEL –MUMBAI PANEL

INDIAN ministry is currently in the process reviewing a proposal to start a maglev train system in india .it has also has been estimate the cost to complete this process would over billion core .the company who sent the propasals is a company based in the united kingdom.
