Ten Thousand Villages will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year on Fri- day, Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. with a cake- cutting ceremony at the Crafts of the World sale at the community cen- tre in Magnetawan. The sale will begin at 3 and go to 9 p.m. on Fri- day and resume Saturday, Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Congratulations to Florian and Stephanie Lauffer, who now reside in Switzerland, who had a baby girl on Oct. 16 weighing 8 lb 7 oz. They have called her Katia Ana. Proud grandparents are Christine and Volkher Lauffer of Burk’s Falls. There will be a bus trip on Nov. 19 to North Bay for Christ- mas shopping. The bus will leave the seniors centre at 9 a.m. and will return between 4 and 5 p.m. The cost is $10. If you are interested, please call Mary at 387-3301. He won Angler of the Year in his local fishing club. Don’t forget the children’s shoe boxes that the Presbyterian Ladies’ Aid are collecting for. On Nov. 2, the Women’s Own Resource Centre is offering WINGS (Women in Networking Growing Stronger), a workshop dealing with the topic Self-Esteem. This will take place in Powassan at the Crimson and Crowe B & B from 10 a.m. to noon. Starting Oct. 15 the Magne- tawan recreation committee will be holding Tai Chi for beginners starting at 7 p.m. in the commu- nity centre. The cost is $25 for six classes, Learn how, for 20 minutes each morning, you can reduce stress and feel a deep sense of calm and peace. At the same time, this calm- ing activity also helps you build strength, stay limber, improve your balance and other aspects of your health, such as immune functions and blood pressure. Euchre winners on Thursday, Oct. 22 were Reg White- head, men’s high; Joyce Croteau, ladies’ high; Gord Gibbs, men’s low; Marg Robinson, ladies’ low. Drop-in euchre winners at the Powassan legion on Friday, Oct. 23 were Alice Boissonneault, first; Reg Topham, second; and Kevin Topham, third. There will also be a tag day at Gerry’s General Store. The Powassan legion Friday Night Special on Nov. 6 will be a breaded pork dinner, starting at 5:30 p.m., while quantities last. Royal Canadian Legion Remem- brance Day Services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 12 noon in Trout Creek and 2:30 p.m. in Powassan. There will be a memorabilia dis- play at the Powassan Legion Hall from 12:30 until 3:30 p.m. On Nov. 11, there will be a wave of silence at the cenotaph at 11:00 a.m. The Powassan and District Hor- ticultural Society will be holding its annual Christmas meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the Golden Sunshine Club, 105 Edward Street, with a turkey and ham dinner for anyone interested in horticulture. The social starts at 6 p.m. and the dinner at 6:30 p.m. A short DVD on wildflowers will follow the meal. New members are welcome.
