Mid and Late-‐life Depression Linked to DemenZa Risk Middle-‐aged men and women suffering from depression may be more suscepDble to demenDa later in life, a new study finds. Researchers conducted a life-‐course study that first looked at the incidence of depression in midlife among 13,000 people ages 40 to 55. As part of the examinaDon, the parDcipants answered detailed quesDons about their health behaviors and medical histories, and had their height, weight and blood pressure recorded. The researchers then looked at the same people again between 1994 and 2000 to see if they were depressed in older age. From 2003 to 2009 (when the average age of parDcipants was 81), the researchers follow-‐ ed up to determine if they had been diagnosed with demenDa or Alzheimer’s disease. The study, re-‐ ported in the Archives of General Psychiatry, found that people who had depressive symptoms in middle age (but not later in life) were about 20 percent more likely to develop demenDa later on. People who became depressed in later life were 70 percent more likely to develop demenDa than their non-‐depressed peers. SOURCE: Time, 5/8/12

May 23, 2012 3 hour class
5:30—8:30 - Call or email to register What can you do with self-hypnosis? Change a habit, overcome a phobia, finish a marathon, pass an exam, control pain, calm panic, improve concentration, enhance sports performance, end writer's block, give a speech in public, prepare for a job interview, or uncover the cause of a problem, to name a few ways you can use self hypnosis. Since the hypnotic experience varies so widely among individuals it is advisable for you to first experience hypnosis with a qualified therapist, so you can safely discover your unique "feel" in hypnosis. Then you can effectively change the messages in your subconscious and put in motion an ongoing process of Positive Self-Hypnosis. Many of us are familiar with Negative Self Hypnosis. Negative self-talk thrives on fear and doubt. You can use Positive Self-Hypnosis to enhance your creativity, build motivation, accomplish goals, and overcome problems. You can use self-hypnosis anywhere, anytime. Its benefits are as limitless as your imagination. Common uses of self-hypnosis are to stop smoking, to control weight, to study effectively, to increase self-confidence, to improve relationships, and manage pain, etc. Hypnosis is a form of relaxed concentration; first you relax your body, then you relax the conscious part of your mind. Hypnosis enables you to experience thoughts and images as though they were real. It's a way to communicate with your subconscious. Hypnosis has a centuries-old history of proven effectiveness in helping people develop more self control -- of body, mind, and spirit. Self-hypnosis is simply harnessing this kind of everyday state to achieve a particular purpose. With even a light level you can create profound changes in your life. The beneficial effects of self-hypnosis are cumulative: the more you use self-hypnosis properly, the more you benefit. Practices at least once a day are preferable, especially if you are combating years of a bad habit or self-defeating programming.
