The latest one added to the list of National Law Universities in India is the Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, which commenced from March16, 2017. About the University

Realizing the importance of quality legal education and need of

well-trained law graduates to the Bar, Bench and various professions

the State of Maharashtra took a very bold decision by creating three

National Law Universities in the State of Maharashtra at Mumbai,

Nagpur and Aurangabad. Further all the three are independent

and autonomous institutions created under the Maharashtra

National Law University Act, 2014. The latest one added to the list

of National Law Universities in India is the Maharashtra National Law

University, Aurangabad, which commenced from March16, 2017.

The commencement of the University has fulfilled the aspirations

of the people of the Marathwada region for an institution of national

importance in Aurangabad. The law university made a beginning

with admissions from the Academic Year 2017-18.

Prof. Dr. S. Surya Prakash, an eminent scholar took the charge of

Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad

on 16th March, 2017. Earlier, he was working in National Law Institute

University, Bhopal.

He was the Founder- Chairperson, Centre for Business and

Commercial Law and the Faculty in-charge, ADR Cell of NLIU,

Bhopal. He was also founder editor of Indian Law Review. His areas

of interest include Jurisprudence, ADR, International commercial

Arbitration labour laws, Business Laws, and Health Law.

Location and Infrastructure:

The University initially started in the campus of Govt. B. Ed College Campus at Padampura, Station Road, Aurangabad. The University has provided decent hostel facilities for boys and girls at Kanchanwadi covered premises. Bus service has been arranged for students from Kanchanwadi premises to B. Ed. College Campus. Further, the Govt. of Maharashtra has allotted 50 acres of land for the development of new campus.

The University made a modest beginning by

offering B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) course from the academic

year 2017-18.

UNDER-GRADUATE PROGRAMME

B.A.L.L.B. (Hons.) Five- Year Integrated Degree

Course Academic Curriculum of the University

is inspired by the University Grants Commission

(UGC) Curriculum Development Committee

Report (CDCR) wherein the recommendations of

the CDC report and the Bar Council of India (BCI)

guidelines have been considered as the basic

parameters to bring it in consonance with trends

of globalization, pluralism and social integration.

Clinical legal education is an integral component of

the academic curriculum of the university through

which students understand how to appreciate

practical socio-economic and legal issues and

help the needy. The course curriculum promotes

inter-disciplinary approach integrating law, social

sciences and humanities.

The University follows semester system with six

working days in a week, a minimum of 90 working

days in a semester; and 180 days in an academic

year in addition to examinations. The University

introduced Choice- Based Credit Based System

(CBCS) for undergraduate degree course. The

students are required to earn a total of 200 credit

points spread out through the course of five years;

however the students shall be allowed to earn more

credits from the courses offered by the external

experts from time to time. Further, course structure

is designed to impart 42 (forty two) compulsory

papers, 02 (two) clinical papers and 06 (six) optional

papers. A wide range of optional papers would also

be offered to the students.

Horizontal reservation of Government of Maharashtra as per the Directorate of Technical and Higher Education, Maharashtra State subject to fulfilment of conditions laid down in vide letter No. TEM-2015/C.N.06./TE-4, dated 24th February, 2015 (For details please visit:

1. Candidates belonging to Special Backward Class (SBC) will be offered reservation up to 2% of the seats, available for Maharashtra candidates (Maharashtra State seats), which come under the purview of the Competent Authority subject to condition that seat remain vacant in the reserved category of OBC. These seats are carved out from OBC seats and no separate seats are earmarked before the start of the allotment process. SBC candidates having original category OBC will be considered at par with OBC candidates.

2. 30% for women across all categories.

3. 5% for sons/ daughters of defence service personnel.

4. 3% seats of total sanctioned intake capacity of all the institutes shall be reserved for Specially Abled Persons (SAP). These seats shall be within the sanctioned intake of the institute and reserved only for Maharashtra State Candidates out of the three percent reservation for physically handicapped candidates:

PH-1: Visually impaired (blind) candidates (P1)

PH-2: Speech & hearing impaired (dumb and deaf) candidates, (P2)

PH-3: Candidates with orthopaedic disorders and learning disabilities, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphica, Spastic (P3)

Supernumerary Seats:

Supernumerary seats may be considered for the programme under Foreign National/ NRI/ NRI Sponsored category, to be filled in by the University

through CLAT 2018.

POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME

LL.M. ONE- YEAR DEGREE COURSE

MNLU, Aurangabad offers One- Year Postgraduate Degree Course (LL.M.). At present the University offers the specialization in Business and Corporate Laws.

Eligibility for Admission

The admission shall exclusively be based on the performance of the candidate in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) - 2018. However, to qualify for the admission, the candidate must have passed LL.B. Three Year/ Five- Year Integrated Degree Course from any recognized institution/ University with 55% marks for General Candidates (50% marks for SC/ST candidates).

The candidates who have passed the qualifying degree examination through supplementary/ compartment and repeat attempts are also eligible for appearing in the admission test provided that such candidates will have to produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination with 55/50 percent marks, as the case maybe, on the date of their admission or within the time allotted by the MNLU, Aurangabad. The candidates who are appearing or have appeared in the qualifying degree examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear for the CLAT- 2018 subject to the condition that they shall produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination with the prescribed percentage of marks at the time of their interview/ counselling.
