1 MAHARSHI DAY ANAND COLLEGE Late Shri Mangaldas V erma, noted Industrialist and Philanthropist founded the College in 1962. Shri V erma had a fervent desire to bring education to the socially and economically challenged sections of Society. He established this Institution in the heart of the labour area so that opportunities to pursue higher education would be available to them. M.D. College of Arts , Science & Commerce which housed 300 students in 1962, now caters to the needs of over 7000 students. This was the vision of our founder - who saw far and beyond. RAILWAY AND S.T. CONCESSIONS Bonafide students of the College (male a n d f ema le students below 25 years of age, SC/ ST students upto 27 years and research students upto 35 years) can avail of the facility for Railway Concessions for their Season Tickets between the stations nearest to their home (Home address as mentioned in the

admission forms only) and the Station nearest to the College i.e. PAREL / CURREY ROAD / ELPHINSTONE / LOWER PAREL / SEWREE. Long-Journey Railway Concessions are granted only during vacations, according to the rules published by the Railways, details of which are available in the College Office. Application for S.T. Bus Concessions (available in the S.T. Office) are also endorsed though when the address and the name of the nearest S.T. Stop are mentioned in the Admission Form.

COLLEGE OFFICE The Office is situated on the ground floor. The timing for Collection of fees and other payments is from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on all working days except second and fourth Saturday.

ADMISSIONS 1. For admission to B.A., B.Sc. & B.Com. Courses preference is given to inhouse

students. 2. Admissions to BMM, B.Sc. (Comp. Science), B.Com. (B&I) & B.Com. (FM) are

done as per merit. 3. Students belonging to the economically backward class HAVE TO submit an

Income Certificate, attested by a Gazetted Officer. 4. Statements of marks and all other relevant certificates must be produced at the

time of Admissions. 5. A Transfer Certificate is needed when a student joins the Institution from

another College affiliated to the University of Mumbai. 6. The College has a Linguistic Minority Status (Punjabi Linguistic)

ELIGIBILITY

1. Students who have passed the H.S.C. Examination conducted by the Maharashtra Board are eligible to join the F.Y.B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.Classes.

2. Students who have passed the H.S.C. Examination(except Accountancy) under the MCVC are eligible to join only FYBA & FYBSc. Class as per the area of specialization. Students who have taken the Accountancy course can join the F.Y.B.Com. class.

3a. Students who have passed the H.S.C./ISC or any other qualifying examination from the Board/University other than the Maharashtra Board should obtain the Eligibility Certificate from the Registrar, University of Mumbai- 400098, before seeking admission to the College. The eligibility forms are available in the college office.

3b. Similarly students who have passed the F.Y./S.Y. Level of B.A./B.Com./ B.Sc. or any other equivalent qualifying examination from other University should obtain the eligibility certificates from the Registrar, University of Mumbai-400 098. before seeking admission to the college.

REFUND OF FEES As per the University Rules.

COLLEGE REGULATIONS

1. A student joining the College puts himself / herself under the governance and guidance of the Principal in all matters.

2. Every student is expected to behave in an orderly and disciplined manner, inside and outside the Institution. Disciplinary action will be taken for any misbehaviour.

3. Every student will receive an Identity Card on which he / she must affix his/her passport-size photograph, and obtain the signature of the Principal. Students will not be allowed admission to lectures, practicals, College Office, Laboratories, Canteen etc. without the Identity Card which should be worn at all times. Failure to observe this rule can lead to cancellation of admission.

4. Attendance at lectures, tutorials & practicals is COMPULSORY.

5. Attendance at all College examinations is COMPULSORY.

6. Prior permission of the Principal should be taken to form a society, make collections, sell tickets, arrange meetings, invite guests, organise excursions or picnics etc.

7. College programmes and meetings must be chaired by a responsible person.

8. Any matter published in the Magazine must have prior permission of the Principal.

9. Students should not take active part in politics .

10. A students should not communicate any information to the press without the permission of the Principal.

11. Students are strictly prohibited from loitering in the corridors while lectures, practicals and tutorials are in progress. In case the Students are free from their respective lectures/practicals they should keep themselves engaged in the Students Common Room, the Library or the Gymkhana.

12. Suggestion boxes are provided for the Students to help college administration with constructive suggestions.

13. Any leave of absence should be intimated to the office immediately. Late submission of Leave Applications will not be accepted. Fitness certificates should be attached with applications for medical leave of absence.

14. SMOKING IS PROHIBITED IN THE COLLEGE PREMISES

15. A student may be expelled by the Principal for the following reasons (Principles laid down by the Maharashtra State Government Education Department) 1) Persistent Insubordination 2) Mischievous behaviour. 3) Malpractices in Examinations. 4) Unauthorised alteration of Leaving Certificate. 5) Undesirable influence over fellow students.

16. Students are expected to take proper care of the College property and to help on keeping the premises neat and tidy. Causing damage to the property of the college, e.g. defacing walls and doors, damaging fittings or breaking furniture, etc. is a breach of discipline and will be duly punished.

17. USE OF MOBILE PHONE WITH IN THE COLLEGE PREMISES IS PROHIBITED

18. Ragging is prohibited.

Eligibility: A candidate for being eligible for admission to the Bachelor of Commerce (Banking & Insurance and Financial Markets) Degree Course shall have passed XII std. Examination of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent and secured not less than 45% marks in aggregate at (40% in case of reserved category) one & the same sitting (B&I-University Circular no. UG/ 337 of 2004, Dated: 13/08/2010 and FM-University Circular no. UG/ 211 of 2007, Dated: 18/05/2007). Every Candidate admitted to the Degree Course in the Constituent / affiliated college / recognized institution, conducting the course, shall have to register himself / herself with the University.

Duration of the Course and Related Information: a) The Course shall be a full time course. The duration of the course shall be six

semesters spread over in three years. b) Number of students: A batch shall consist of not more than 60 students; c) The course shall consist of 38 subjects & 2 projects of 100 marks each. d) Total number of lectures per paper per semester shall be maximum of 60 each

The course is full-time i.e. duration of 6 semesters spread over three years. Every semester consists of 6 theory papers and 6 projects. The first four semesters are common while semester-V offers an option between advertising and journalism, leading to a bifurcation of students at this point of time. Each paper consists of 4 lectures per week per semester. The projects discussions and presentations are supervised by the teacher, after giving an outline of all the objectives of the work assigned.

SELECTION BASIS : After the 12th standards results are declared, selection takes place on the basis of merit. Distribution of seats are as follows:

Scheme of examination:- The scheme of Examination shall be divided in two parts. A) Internal Assessment :- 40% i.e. 40 marks. B) Semester End Examination: - 60% i.e. 60 marks.

Passing Standard A student shall have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks in aggregate for each theory paper (where the theory paper consists of internal Assessment & Semester (End Examination with minimum of 40% marks (i.e. 16 out of 40) in the Internal Assessment and 40% marks in Semester end examination (i.e. 24 out of 60) separately to pass the subject.

The performance grading shall be based on the aggregate performance of Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination.

a. A student who PASSES in the Internal Examination but FAILS in the Semester End Examination of the theory paper shall reappear for the Semester End Examination of that theory paper. However his/her marks of the Internal Examinations shall be carried over but he/she shall be entitled for grade E on passing.

b. A student who PASSES in the Semester End Examination but FAILS in the Internal Examination of the theory paper shall reappear for the Internal Examination of that theory paper. However his/her marks of the Semester End Examination shall be carried over but he/she shall be entitled for grade E on passing.

c. The Internal Examination for reappearing students will consist of one project of 40 marks which will be divided into 20 marks for the hard copy of the project, 10 marks for the presentation and 10 marks for the viva.

Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT)

a. A student shall be allowed to keep term for Semester II irrespective of number of heads of failure in the Semester I.

b. A student shall be allowed to keep term for Semester III if he/she passes each of Semester I and Semester II.

OR c. A student fails in not more than two papers of Semester I and Semester II each

where the total marks does not exceed 400. d. A student shall be allowed to keep term for Semester IV irrespective of number of

heads of failure in Semester III. However the student has to pass each of Semester I and Semester II in order to appear for Semester IV.

e. A student shall be allowed to keep term for Semester V if he/she passes Semester I, Semester II, Semester III and Semester IV.

OR f. A student shall pass Semester I and Semester II and fails in not more than two

theory papers of Semester III and Semester IV each where the total marks does not exceed 400.

g. A student shall be allowed to keep term for Semester VI irrespective of number of heads of failure in the Semester V.

h. The result of Semester VI shall be kept in abeyance until the student passes each of Semester I, Semester II, Semester III, Semester IV and Semester V.

Additional Examination: There will be one additional examination for Semester I, II, III and IV for those who have failed or remained absent. The absent student will be allowed to appear for the examination by the head of the institution / after following the necessary formalities of medical/special ground. This examination will be held 20 days f r o m the declaration of results but not later than 40 days.

Passing Standard

The minimum marks for passing each theory paper is 40% which consist of Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination with 40% (16 out of 40) & (24 out of 60). i.e. both Internal Examination And Semester End Examination is separately to be passed in each subject.

For Science Students, each paper has practical of 50 Marks.

The Performance grading is based on the aggregate of Internal Assessment and Semester End Examination.

(i) A student who passes in Internal Examination but fails in the Semester End Examination Shall reappear for Semester End Examination of that theory paper.

(ii) A student who passes Semester End Examination but fails in Internal Examination shall reappear in Internal Examination by submitting a project of 40 Marks.

Additional Examination

There is an additional Examination for Semester I, II, III, and IV for Semester End Examination and Internal Examination For students who have failed or remained absent. The absent student will be allowed by the consent of Head of the Institution on special ground such as Medical, NSS, NCC, Inter collegiate Sports Activities.

Allowed to keep Terms (ATKT)

(i) A student will be allowed to keep terms for Semester II Irrespective number of heads of failure in the Semester - I.

(ii) A student shall be allowed to keep term for Semester - III & IV if he/she Passes each of Semester

I and Semester II. OR fails in not more than two papers (200 Marks) for commerce and arts in each of semester I & II and not more than three papers (300 Marks) for Science in each of semester I & II.

(iii) A student shall be allowed to keep term for Sem-V and Sem-VI if he/she passes each of Semester - I, Semester - II, Semester - III & Semester - IV. OR fails in not more than two paper (200 Marks) for Commerce and Arts in each of Semester - III & Semester - IV & not more than three paper (300 Marks) for Science in each of Semester III & IV.

* However he/she must pass both Sem - I & Sem - II to keep term for Semester V & Semester VI.

The Library is housed in a separate building at the quadrangle of the rear of the College.

Our library supports and extends the academic education of our institution. We extend our library services to retired teachers and ex-students with nominal fee.

The College endeavors to make the library user friendly. It is equipped with 34000 books and subscribes to 75 different periodicals in various disciplines. The large spacious reading room with an open access system does encourage students to browse through a large variety of books. A suggestion box is placed within the Library and students are encouraged to come forward with their suggestions. This healthy practice enables the library to meet students requirements.

1. The library is open on all the working days of the year from 8.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.

2. The library Staff helps the students to access or replace books.

3. Books are issued to student for a period of 7 days.

4. The librarian can recall any book on loan, if it is required in the library, even though it is not due to be returned.

5. Renewal of books will be permitted for a further period of 7 days if there is no demand for it

6. Failure to return a book on the scheduled date will incur a fine of Rs.1/- per working day.

7. Cutting or tearing of any photo or page for the books is strictly prohibited, and disciplinary action taken against such candidates.

8. Silence has to be maintained. Students found chatting in the reading room will face the disciplinary action.

9. The librarian is authorized to terminate the membership of any borrower if he/she is found guilty of misbehavior.

10. All books have to be returned before claiming the deposit money.

11. If any book or periodical is damaged or lost by the borrower he/she will either replace it or pay its cost. It will have to be replaced by a new one of the same or later edition, at his/her cost.

12. Photocopy service is also provided to the students at the rate of Rs.1/- per copy.

13. Readers may search books on the computer with the library with the help of OPAC (online public access catalogue)

14. Free Internet facility is also available in the Library. B/W & Color Printout is on charge basis.

15. Reference books will not be issued for home reading

16. Bags or personal books will not be permitted in the reading room. students have to keep their belongings on the luggage rack.
