Many organizations and people are struggling, and we’ve been honored by your gifts of time, treasure, and talent. Community producers have given so much in their production of superb local programs. Many staff arranged ways to work from home, including setting up home studios. We’ve developed several work-arounds to record programs, concerts, and events to bring you fresh content. Many individuals and organizations have provided extra help to keep our service strong in our communities, our region, and our state at a time when it’s most needed. Staff flexibility, dedication, and creativity were key elements in maintaining a robust service. The station has continued to operate at a high level despite lockdowns, equipment failures, and a struggling economy thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers. Thank you all. As we look forward to 2021 (and aren’t we all?) the SPR Board of Directors has begun preparations for strategic planning sessions looking to the next three to five years. After four decades of operation, the station has seen great advances and accomplishments worth celebrating during our 40 th anniversary year. Yet many opportunities for growth and improved service loom large in the not-so-distant future. These efforts are all geared toward one over-arching goal: helping our listeners and communities stay informed, enlightened, and entertained. The year 2020 has proven challenging in many difficult ways. It tested our organization, our staff, and our resolve. Our commitment remains strong: to provide our communities with a great public radio service. Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021 A note from Cary Boyce, SPR General Manager and President Hello 2021, Cont. By Cary Boyce, General Manger and President The challenges are not behind us, but we expect 2021 to be challenging in the very best ways. These will involve developing a stronger and more secure station, growing a larger and improved news service, and expanding SPR’s educational, cultural, and civic engagement. We’ve done major work along these lines in many ways—but today is a stepping stone to an even more vibrant future of service. So Thank You once again for your help along the way. We hope you’ve been informed by the news and information provided from far away and right next door, that you’ve been enlightened by the many cultural and musical offerings, and enjoyed the entertainment we’ve provided. We strive to be a light and source of information during dark times, and a place you can find inspiration and hope in even the best of times. SPR is here for you—because of you. All of us at SPR hope you’ve enjoyed a happy, warm, and safe holiday season—and we wish you all a terrific New Year! -Cary Boyce, President and General Manager Continued on the back page Volume 41 / No. 1 January to March 2021 The Guide Your Connection to Spokane Public Radio
