What is Time to Change
Wales?
Following the success of Time to Change inEngland, and based on robust evidence fromsimilar campaigns in the USA, New Zealand andScotland, Time to Change Wales (TTCW) isthe first all Wales, comprehensive campaign tochallenge the stigma and discrimination facedby people with mental health problems andtheir families. The campaign has been fundedfor three years by The Big Lottery Fund,Comic Reliefand the Welsh Government.The programme is being run by a partnership ofthree leading mental health charities in Wales:Gofal, Hafal and Mind Cymru.
The central aim of the Programme is tochange negative attitudes and behaviourtowards mental illness.
What is the Time to Change WalesProgramme planning to do?To be effective, an anti stigma anddiscrimination campaign must work at a rangeof levels, and with different groups andcommunities. Evidence from previous, similarcampaigns demonstrates that a number of keyelements and activities are required to achievea width and depth of penetration both nationally

and locally.These major elements are:
A Social Marketing campaign to raise theissues of stigma and discrimination with thegeneral public in Wales, through national andlocal media to challenge attitudes andbehaviour;
A campaign ofCommunity Activism, givingpeople the tools and empowering them tochallenge stigma and discrimination in theirlocal communities
How can organisations or individual peoplesupport the campaign/programme?
We are keen to enlist the help of any interestedindividuals and/or organisations throughoutWales, and across all sectors, to join us in this
campaign to end the stigma and discriminationassociated with mental illness. This can includeorganisations and projects already funded toachieve similar outcomes to TTCW.
