The mast head is placed in the far
left corner and features on top of
the main image so as to be clearly
seen by the reader. It is in bright
red writing with a white outline
which makes it come of the image
and stand out. The abbreviation of
New Musical Express makes the
name seems trendier and modern
making it a more noticeable name
and brand.
The text ‘insane’ is written in an abstract,
scrawled out style, as if it had been drawn on
top of the front cover. The style of the font
could be considered insane, which reflects
what the text is about. The colour contrasts
and sticks out against the white text it is
between. This contrast draws the reader
towards it, due to how much it sticks out.
The main image contrasts itself, due to the
two men featured on it wearing contrasting
coloured costumes, which creates an effect
which draws the attention of the audience.
The fact that it is also the only image on the
front cover makes it the main focus of the
cover and the two men appear to be looking
directly at the audience, and this direct mode
of address makes the audience feel the article
is more for them.
The Band name ‘Kasabian’
is featured in a larger font
then any another text on
the page, which
immediately grabs the
reader’s attention. The
position of the text is
directly in the middle of the
cover which makes it the
centre of attention. Also
the bright colour of the text
helps to make it more
attractive to the reader so
as to further interest them.
Buzzword has bright
red letters with the
word ‘win’ in it so as
the winner is drawn
in that they can win
something. Also the
gold circle could be
a possible
representation of
money or wealth
which is indicated by
the featured ‘£4100’
in the text.
The image is made to appear more 3D by
how the musicians hand is placed over the
text, making it appear as if he is coming out
of the image, which creates the effect he is
directly addressing the reader, which makes
the magazine feel more personal to them.

T
The mast head stands out with the
bold black font, which makes it
noticeable amongst the rest of the
magazine. Lines come across it as if
it has been shattered, and the
name of the magazine is
onomatopoeia of the sound made
by a guitar. This suggests that the
magazine features loud rock music.
Unusually the mast
head features a tag
line on top of it in
bright red letters
stating ‘life is loud’.
This stands out
atop the title and is
noticeable to the
audience due to it
being the only red
text on the
magazine and that
the text is short
and catchy, and
reflects the type of
music the target
audience enjoys
that of loud rock
music.
The main cover line
magazine is made clear by
the large text going across
the front cover, showing
how important it is by how
much space it takes up. Also
the large bold writing on
‘100’ emphasises how much
content the reader is getting
in this magazine. Also the
fact it says ‘greatest gigs
ever!’ makes the magazine
feel more special due to
how exclusive this
information appears to be.
The side of the magazine features
pictures of musicians with their bands
names below the images. They are
covered in a yellow text box similar to the
subtext below the main text suggesting
the link to them and the main article. The
fact that they have been placed on the
main cover suggests they are featured
heavily in the article.
The main image of the cover features a
man playing guitar in what appears to be
a live concert, suggesting he is linked to
the main article of ‘100 Greatest Gigs
Ever!’. The fact he is a male playing a
guitar appeals to young men who also
enjoy playing guitar and listening to
music, and his prominence on the front
suggests that the reader is or will be
interested in reading about him.
The text featured
under the cover line
mentions ‘your vote’
in it suggesting that
the readers have
sent in what they
believe is the best
gig, giving a special
connection to the
reader and the
article as it has been
created based on
their choice, also the
text ends in ‘The
Winners Are…’ which
grabs the readers
curiosity as to who
will have one, which
persuades them to
buy the magazine.
The Cover Line below features to images
with in a different coloured text box to
that of the main cover line, meaning it is
for a different article, a the ‘VS’ suggests
the article explores which of the two
featured tours is better. The fact it is
featured on the cover suggests it is an
important article, but less important
than the one above it. Also the fact that
it features ‘VS’ in different coloured text
from the rest of the text grabs the
readers interest to read and find out
which is better.
