The Top FashionDistraction at ClaremontBy Javaughn Burgess
Kids at Claremont Academy are
mostly interested in the latest fashion
because it makes them seem cool. Fashion
is a distraction for kids and their education;
Kids leave home everyday and head to
school dressed to impress.
A few Claremont Academy
students were asked, Do you think fashion
is a distraction towards your education?
Kenisha Couture, Claremont Academy
sophomore said, At the end of the day
what really matters is whether or not a
student has the mindset to get that
education. Some teachers at Claremont
Academy would have kids wear uniforms
rather than the usual, jeans, t-shirts, andhats. They were asked, Would it be better
if kids at Claremont Academy wear
uniforms? One teacher, Mrs. Carlson
stated, It would be better if students wear
uniforms because it would be less of a
distraction. It would also take a lot of
financial pressure off of the parents and
guardians who have to support kids
attending school.
Disney & RoboticsBy William Foster
Robotics may seem boring to some people but what the
students are excited about this year is the championship is
at Disneyland. Yes the teams that winQCC VEX Robotics
Competition Massachusetts State Championship or theNew England Championship also by QCC are qualified to
go to Disneyland, California to compete against teams
around the world in April.
I asked three people about their opinions towards
Robotics. Mr. Jarrett (History Teacher) said, Thats great,
I wish I could go! Maya Paul replied I feeljealous. I
want to go to Disneyland. When I asked my fellow
Robotics Team member, Derek Pham, He simply replied,
Im excited about it. It has caused much excitement, already.

Story of the Misunderstood Skaters
By Nelson Garcia
Skating in Main South is not an easy task, especially when the closest skate park is across the city. For me and
many other skaters across the country, skating is an escape from the problems we have in our lives. The biggest
problem that we skaters have is that we have nowhere to skate. Skating isnt just a sport, its a lifestyle, and to keep that
lifestyle you have to stay committed, which is why we skate every day. Once you start skating youll start to look at lifedifferently, the way you dress, the slang you use, the music you listen to, the people you hang out with, and the places
you go. Everything is just different to us, which is why we are so misunderstood by some people today because they just
automatically assume that we arestupid street punks that skate all day and are always looking for trouble.
The only places where we can go without getting in trouble with the police are rocky parking lots and Green Hill Skate
Park, which is too far from Main South for kids that dont have cars. This is unfair for skaters. The city of Worcester can
invest in new bike racks, new streets, law enforcement, events, new buildings, and even bigger paychecks for city
officials.
I understand that they have more important things to attend to, but why not help out the kids who have no voice in their
own community? Im not saying that they should pity us, but they should at least help us instead of pretending that we
dont exist. Our parents pay taxes, have jobs, and work hard. We go to school, do our work, and put all of that extra
energy we have into something positive: skateboarding. I think its time for a change because Im sick of being harassed
by authorities, Im sick of running all the time, Im just sick of not having anywhere to skate.
I know there is empty land all around Main South that could possibly be used as a skate park. For example, thatemptyfield next to the Boys & Girls Club; it has been there for so long it seems as if no one ever uses it for anything else but a
dump. Perhaps theowner of the land, a private owner or the city could donate it for a good cause, and then maybe wecould take a shot at making a skate park. Who knows, if we getenough people to help us clean then we will try getting a
hold of someone who is willing to donate for a Main South Skate park. But in the meantime, we are going to skate where
we can until we get what we deserve: A Skate Park.
Dear Editor,
I have an idea about an after school activity. It would be for kids who areinterested in an Outlet. My definition of an outlet is a person that you are able to go
to for guidance and someone to just listen to you whenever it is needed.
From my understanding everyone has problems. Most people can handle
them, but sometimes there are just those people who just cant take it anymore. That
is where this group comes in effect. Some people are sometimes waiting for that one
person to reach out to them and give them the care they yearn for.
This group will be girls and boys that have problems in their lives and feel like they
need an outlet. We can gather weekly or maybe even twice a week. Conversations such
as, why they are here, what is their life like, opening up to others, and learn ways to be
able to help yourself and to move forward. They are there to know they are not alone.
They will always have an Outlet.
Sincerely, Kenisha Couture
