Capitalizing on Culture In Pikeville!

We had a great conference in Pikeville! Minta worked so hard to assure that eve-rything was just perfect for all of us. The Pikeville Main Street board, the city of Pikeville, the staff at the Expo Center and many many more went above and beyond to make this event a huge success! They literally rolled out the red carpet! We were treated to Main Street live on Friday night and our own Tony Pence sang a few songs. He now has a whole cadre of KYMS groupies. The keynote speakers and panel discussions were inspiring and the educational sessions covered a variety of topics & provided a wealth of information. Here are a few photos. →

Mark your calendar for Oct. 24-25 for our final conference of the year in Paducah. Melinda is working ever so hard to help us provide another great experience for all of you. Main Street 101 will be done on the after-noon of Oct. 23. This is a great opportunity for your board members to receive this training.

We started this journey in 2004 and wanted to share with my fel-low Main Streeters where we are today. The Guthrie Transporta-tion Museum & Welcome Center has been funded by two Trans-portation Enhancement Grants and a grant through CDBG. We will have our Certificate of Occu-pancy this week!!! Soon we will start our second phase to install an elevator and stairs to make both floors functional. It has been a very long journey but one that I would not trade for the world. This building sits in the center of our downtown and once was used as an example of "slum and blight" in downtown in a Power-Point at a Main Street Confer-ence. Now it is proudly displayed on our Main Street - a shining example of exactly why we all do what we do!
