Tim Melville, President Elect, New Zealand Institute of Architects & Principal, Warren and Mahoney
Dennis Burns, Member, New Zealand Institute of Building & Director, Archus
Steve Davis, Director, Assemble
11.55 BIM FOR THE WHOLE CONSTRUCTION LIFECYCLE - THE NEXT FRONTIER
BIM is a part of a whole ecosystem for the full product lifecycle of a construction. Hear from Mark Thomas about the future of asset management and data connectivity that builds on the BIM foundation.
• The power of visual data across the whole asset lifecycle
• Connectivity of data from concept to demolition Making digital data work for the “right person at the
right time and place” • Exploring artificial intelligence for data
connectivity, asset optimisation and predictive maintenance.
Mark Thomas, CEO, Nextspace
12.35 LUNCH BREAK
Exploring different uses of BIM1.40 CONSTRUCTION COST CONTROL: COST
PLANNING AND MAKING SAVINGS WITH BIM • Pre-contract Quantity surveying and consumption
of design data • Looking at the task of delivering targeted 20%
savings to construction projects through BIM Keeley Pomeroy, Principal Quantity Surveyor, AECOM
2.25 OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CLOUD FOR BIM • Looking at the impact cloud storage has on model
accessibility • Creating an optimum hybrid cloud model • Discussing how to ensure security in assets hosted
on the cloud Simon Mobley, Director, asBUILT
3.05 AFTERNOON BREAK
3.35 CAD SOFTWARE SKILLS SESSION • Exploring how to create models across various
kinds of software • Looking at interoperability – exporting and
importing models in a range of software • Discussing the tips and tricks for time saving
and increased efficiency Roy Qian, Senior BIM Manager, BECA
4.15 NEW ZEALAND BIM PROJECT CASE STUDY A case study of a project in New Zealand that will
showcase the clients thought process for adopting BIM, the options appraisal process to define the extent of BIM adoption, as well as the targeted and achieved project outcomes.
Glenn Jowett, BIM Practice Lead, AECOM
5.00 SUMMARY REMARKS FROM THE CHAIR & NETWORKING DRINKS
DAY TWO 8.55 WELCOME BACK FROM THE CHAIR Rob Stuart, Director – Innovation & Tech, Russell Group
BIM essentials9.00 NEW TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPORT BIM • Looking at the right data to gather for BIM • New ways of reaching hard to find areas –
using UAVs for BIM • Exploring new methods of data capture –
3D scanning Malcolm Archbold, Survey Director, asBUILT
9.30 A SURVEYOR’S PERSPECTIVE - FROM DIGITAL TO REALITY • The process of taking digital data back into reality • Discussing the benefits to the construction process • Challenging the BIM model with reality Bruce Robinson, Director, Global Survey
10.00 USING METADATA IN BIM TO AID EVIDENCE-BASED DECISION MAKING
BIM is capable of contributing value to the construction beyond just 3D visual modelling. The development of NZ Metadata Standards provides for the creation of high value information in the BIM that can be used to aid decision making through the design and construction processes and on through the life of the asset.
Nick Clements, BIM Project Lead, Masterspec
10.40 MORNING BREAK
11.00 BIM IN COMPLEX MULTI–STAKEHOLDER PROJECTS Hear from BIM users about their experience
bringing multiple teams along on the BIM journey and achieving interoperability in BIM processes.
• Getting all multiple parties on board for BIM projects
• Integrating multiple sets of data into one model • Current technologies for BIM collaboration Chris Vorster, BIM Manager, Architectus
11.50 APPLYING INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY TO BIM – AUGMENTED REALITY
• Exploring the opportunities for BIM to utilise AR • Discussing the tech available for AR – mobile
tablets to the HoloLens • Integrating BIM with other technology Mike Bundock, Chief Executive Officer, Augview

MASTERCLASS1.30 BUILDING WATERTIGHT CONSTRUCTION
CONTRACTS WITH REFERENCE TO BIM The opportunities provided by BIM can be reduced
by poor relationships and the best way to avoid this is a strong contract. In this masterclass, delegates will learn about how BIM affects contracting and the best ways to include BIM in any contract.
• Looking at the fundamentals of construction contracts in New Zealand
• Including BIM in a contract – what to include • Looking at including responsibilities
post construction • Ownership and use of models after the project ends • What to do in the event of a relationship break down • Recent legislation change and the effects
on contracting Naseem Ameer Ali, Senior Lecturer, Massey University
MEET YOUR CHAIRRob StuartDirector - Innovation & TechNOLOGYRussell Group
Rob is Director of Innovation & Technology at the Russell Group, whose 5 main brands include Dominion Constructors, Acrow, Stresscrete, Russell Property Group, and Russell Gordon Contracting. Together they work across all sectors of the construction market and employ close to 1300 people. Rob leads the Russell Group’s development programme for the integration of new technologies, including the application of digital design and construction processes.
With over 12 years in the construction industry, primarily focused on Building Information Modelling (BIM), Rob has worked in the UK, Australia and New Zealand as a technical specialist in the fields of engineering, architecture and construction.
New Zealand is experiencing a construction boom which offers great opportunities, but forces efficiency throughout the building process. Building Information Modelling provides builders with an advanced process for improving collaboration and speeding up the supply chain.
The NZ BIM Conference brings together delegates from throughout the sector to discuss how to take advantage of BIM with application to new builds, as well as asset and facilities management on completed structures.
Don’t miss your opportunity to attend the inaugural BIM Summit and discuss how to accelerate and maximise the uptake of BIM in New Zealand.
HEAR FROM THE EXPERTS about the best strategies and use of BIM across New Zealand.
THE NEW ZEALAND BIM CONFERENCE WILL:
• Bring you face to face with professionals using BIM in New Zealand to discuss the best ways to apply BIM technology to your construction project, building/facilities management processes
• Show best practice examples of BIM use, through innovative case studies and discussions
• Provide professionals impacted by BIM in New Zealand with a space to network
Separately bookable workshop
An introduction to BIM
for Facilities Management27 October | 9.30-12.30pm
BIM has a lot of potential to impact upon facilities management but can leave managers wondering where to start. In this workshop delegates, will be taken through the creation of whole of life digital data centric workflows on a BIM project.• Where to start – planning for
BIM implementation.• Introduction to data custodianship
(defining, gathering, verification and re-use).
• Lessons learnt on how to engage with the NZ Metadata (shared data) Standards.
• Integrating multi-disciplinary integrated data rich digital models into existing asset/facility management systems.
• Building maintenance with BIM.• Exploring the impact BIM can have on
whole of life asset management.
DANIEL JURGENDaniel is the Global BIM
Manager at Opus responsible
for the strategic direction
and implementation of BIM
methodologies across all sectors, globally.
Daniel has extensive experience delivering
numerous projects utilising BIM methodologies
focusing on whole of life digital delivery.
Additionally, Daniel is a BIM advisor to private
clients, government bodies and industry
associations; Most recently this has included
the co-authoring of the BIM Knowledge and
Skills Framework for the Australian Construction
Industry Forum/Australasian Procurement and
