SCHOOL HOLIDAY FUN

WILD WESTIt’s all things Wild West these July holidays at Maitland City Library. Join us for campfire tales and songs, make dream catchers, experience Aussie back of beyond activities, or be a cowboy, cowgirl or Native American Indian for the day. Be entertained with theatre, song and storytelling by children’s performer Renee Price in the Digby Fixit Live! show at Rutherford Library.

With a mixture of low cost and free activities provided by professional entertainers and library staff, there will be something for every child. Bookings are essential and can be made through Maitland City Library website at maitland.nsw.gov.au/ Library.

THE SUMMIT OF HER AMBITIONANNE MCLEODAnne McLeod has published a biography on Marie Byles, the first female solicitor in New South Wales. A strong advocate for equal rights, Marie devoted herself to environmental conservation, was an avid explorer-mountaineer and was at the forefront of Western Buddhism.

Her story has powerful narratives, along with the personal fallibilities of a woman determined to be true to herself and her beliefs.

Alasdair McGregor, author of A Forger’s Progress: The Life of Francis Greenway, will explore the extraordinary circumstances and achievements of Greenway’s life and how Maitland came to be his final resting place.

LITERARY COUPLE - GRAEME SIMSION AND ANNE BUISTDescribed by the Sydney Morning Herald as Australia’s hottest literary couple, Graeme Simsion and Anne Buist will give an insight into their lives as writers of very different books.

Graeme Simsion is the author of the humorous and touching The Rosie Project, soon to be made into a Hollywood movie. Its sequel, The Rosie Effect, was released in 2014 to great acclaim and has also become a bestseller.

Professor Anne Buist is a prominent perinatal psychiatrist whose psychological thriller Medea’s Curse draws on her considerable professional experience.

Married for 25 years, they enjoy writing in the same room, exploring plot and character ideas together.

Based on real life experiences, Denial is a River in Egypt tells Liberty Hunter’s story of being a young mum who had a normal life before being plunged into an unfamiliar world where everything she took for granted disappeared.

STEPS TO SURVIVALDENISE SWEENEYDenise Sweeney tells her personal story of fighting and surviving endometrial cancer in her book Steps to Survival. Denise’s book raises awareness of gynaecological cancers and provides strategies women can use to get through those difficult months of surgery, chemotherapy and radiography treatments.
