Flashcards are a proven way to quickly memorize information. This set contains 22 flashcards, teaching 22 Major Arcana tarot cards. A single flashcard presents a card and its most common meanings, each on a separate page.

Here is the best way to use this set:1. Open this document in Acrobat Reader (or Preview for Mac users) in “slideshow” or “full-screen” view.2. Go through each flashcard and try to recall what each card represents.3. Check the answer revealed on the next page.

After going through the cards several times, you will have memorized them. But to make it “stick”, repeat the whole process after a short break and then once again tomorrow.

New beginnings, new experiences and making choices.

Unmolded potential which is neither good nor bad – but contains both.

I - The Magician

When the Magician pops up it talks about the person mastering the material world.

His real power comes from those sources outside of himself.

II - The High PriestessSpir i tual enl ightenment and intuition; the link between that which is seen and unseen.

The High Priestess also represents the unconscious mind and our inner voice.

III - The Empress

She is the mother stereotype; emotions in balance bring internal structure to all things.

Her power is that of nature, life and creation.

IV - The Emperor

The Emperor represents power and control. He is the archetype of rules and authority.

This card also represents stability and foundation.

The Hierophant is about a law and order in the world, power through an es tab l i shment and the acceptance of authority.

This card also represents social approval and consensus of public opinion.

VI - The Lovers

We are human and need others, yet balance is needed between our emotions and our outer selves.

This card is also the card of harmony and unions.

VII - The Chariot

The Chariot tells of your self-reliance and belief in your own abilities. But having control isn’t exactly easy.

This card also represents meeting life’s obstacles and fighting your way through.

VIII - Strength

Strength does not indicate the display of brute force but rather a wise display of control and understanding ourselves.

It represents the courage and ability to cope with immense pressures and to win by fighting through it to the end.

IX - The Hermit

This card represents introspection, solitude and reflection.

In iso lat ion, you str i ve to understand all the whys and acquire a deeper understanding of yourself.

This card portends change of fortune - and it is fate that has brought this into one’s life rather than one’s own doing.

The big lesson here is to accept fate as a legitimate factor in life.

XI - Justice

This is a card of learning responsibility and fairness.

Accepting responsibility for one’s own life comes with the realization that even the smallest actions we take today have consequences in creating our future.

This is a card of adapting to changing circumstances and learning to look at things from a completely different perspective.

It also represents a trial of passage - something needs to be given up now for greater gain later.

XII - The Hanged Man

XIII - Death

This is a card of major change and ultimate transformation.

It heralds a definite (and painful) ending but also a new beginning - shocking and unexpected changes it brings are the way to clear a way for a brand new life.

XIV - Temperance

This card is about moderation; a certain amount of maturity is needed.

Wild wondering about your actions and motivations disappears and you start to apply the powers of self-control and flexibility.

XV - The Devil

This card implies one’s own inner burden and struggling with our own demons, obsessions and self-deceptions.

Growth is possible only through a painful confrontation with the negative aspects of one’s own ego.

XVI - The Tower

The Tower is a card of major changes and dramatic upheaval, representing the overthrowing of your existing way of life.

The impulse has come for the necessary change; now is the time to re-evaluate things.

XVII - The Star

The Star provides guidance; it’s a bright light to illuminate our way.

It is also a card of protection that brings optimism, hope and renewal of faith.

XVIII - The Moon

This is a card of shadows and illusions and finding a way to discern illusion from the truth.

The Moon also represents the unconsc ious mind and the imagination.

XIX - The Sun

This card represents the warmth of the Sun and the crystal clarity of the day.

It brings vitality, enlightenment and confidence.

XX - Judgement

This card is one of ultimate justice. It finalizes in our lives that what we reap is what we will sow.

All that has passed will be rewarded; you stop and take inventory of all that is behind you.

XI - The World

After learning all the lessons comes achievement, recognition, success and triumph.

The world also signals the end of one cycle to begin another; a completed personal cycle, or a finished chapter in one’s life.



Now Repeat!

Repeat this exercise several times, and you will have memorized the cards.

Note that:‣ Being able to recall the general meaning is fine - you don’t need to memorize by heart all that’s

presented.‣ To make what you have just learned “stick”, be sure to repeat the whole process after a short break and

then once again tomorrow.
