With the number of connected devices predicted at 26 billion* by 2020, and within that, mobile connected devices will go from 6.4 billion in 2012 to 10.8 billion in 2020. This explosive growth will support an addressable revenue opportunity for mobile operators of nearly US$1.1 trillion* by 2020, and will also provide significant growth potential for theentire ecosystem.
The Vision – Mobilising the Internet of Things
A world where consumers and businesses enjoy rich new services across many different devices – securely connected to the Internet via ubiquitous mobile networks. An Internet of Things with seamless and pervasive connectivity between people and processes, enabling a wealth of valuable context-aware services delivered immediately and automatically.
The Mission – To enable a world where everything intelligently connects
The GSMA Connected Living programme is an ecosystem development initiative to help operators accelerate the delivery of new connected devices and services. This is to be achieved by optimising networks and developing key enablers to support the growth of the Internet of

Services and processes across many industries are becoming both more digital and more mobile; from entertainment and banking, to health and e-government. Yet, the demand from consumers for secure access to services, greater privacy and robust data protection has never been more acute. Digital identity enabled via the mobile handset holds the promise of greater security, while opening up new markets.
Enabling digital Identity across a range of services has been identified by the GSMA board, consisting of leading mobile operators from across the globe, as a key step in creating new value from personalised digital services to provide new value and increased benefits for both consumers and service providers.
The GSMA Personal Data Programme has been built on the successes and strategic insights delivered by the work of the GSMA Mobile Identity Programme in 2013. Development of digital identity services has been prioritised by the GSMA Board, and the Programme with its Operator partners will work together to deliver digital identity solutions to market with scale, seamless and convenient consumer experience, consistency of user interface and low barriers to entry across
the digital identity ecosystem.

New mobile technologies are profoundly changing the way in which people and organisations do business. Mass-market smartphones, with touchscreens, fast connections and an array of feature-rich applications, are extending the convenience and interactivity of mobile and online commerce into the physical bricks and mortar world.
Hundreds of millions of people now have the entire Internet at their fingertips wherever they are. As they move around, consumers use smartphones to look up product and service information, download and store vouchers, search for merchants, explore transport options, run price comparisons, buy tickets, purchase products and order services, rather than waiting in line.
At the same time, retailers, transport operators and other service providers are collaborating with the mobile industry to further develop mobile technologies and services to enable a more compelling experience for their customers to use these services securely from their mobile device.

The GSMA’s Network 2020 programme is designed to help operators address the future and put IP Services at the heart of their networks. The strategic importance of a transition to IP-based solutions is clear; moving to an all-IP based infrastructure and services enables operators to deliver a broader, deeper communications portfolio – incorporating voice, video, data, and rich communication services. The all-IP future is vital for operators in order to retain customer relevance and to have a network with the capability to meet the ever growing demand from customers for data services and ever richer communications. The first phase focusses on two main areas – delivering the ‘Green Button Promise’ and Quality based interoperability solutions.
Green Button Promise
The ‘green button’ has typically been the button users press to make a voice call and implies a high level of quality and interoperability. Embedding the ‘Green Button promise’ principals in all the IP-based operator services is a fundamental requirement:
Voice calling – Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and HD Voice Messaging – Rich Communication Services (RCS) Video calls – Video over LTE
Delivering this ‘promise’ fulfils customers’ expectations that services initiated from the calling or messaging buttons on a device will give them high-quality and fully interoperable communications.
Quality based Interoperability
Users of evolved operator IP services e.g. Voice or Video calls over LTE will expect a quality service, wherever they may be. Quality of Service (QoS) is vitally important to underpin the delivery of the ‘Green Button promise’. It is a unique capability for operators as well as a potential differentiation asset, offering new business opportunities to explore with other Service / Content Providers. The programme will work with operators to identify the needs and determine the technical and commercial specifications for operator to operator QoS for IP Services, and help to catalyse commercial implementations for IP Interconnect solutions between operators and Service / Content providers.
