PARENT GUIDE ELEMENTARY APRIL 19, 2020 OVERVIEW OF TODAY’S LESSON: BIG IDEA: I can choose the door of faith! BIBLE LESSON: Peter Walks on Water. MEMORY VERSE: Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. MAKE IT STICK We believe in making scripture stick. We encourage you to do the memory verse challenge: 1. Write each word on a separate piece of paper. 2. Mix the words up. 3. Have your child put the memory verse in order PROVERBS 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with ALL of your heart and do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in ALL that you do and He will show you which path to take. ACT IT OUT (Optional Activity) Let's take what we just heard and act it out. Below are the instructions. You will need a cup of water and oil. 1. Take a cup of water and let this represent Faith and the oil will represent Unbelief. When you trust God, you have faith in Him, but sometimes we do not have faith or trust that God will be there for us. The bible tells us that we are supposed to trust that He will take care of us all the time. 2. Pour the water into oil and let it sit. Wait for the two liquids to separate. Ask kids to say what they observe. 3. It doesn’t mix. This is just like how our unbelief cannot exist while we also have faith. We can have faith by believing in Jesus even though we cannot see Him. 1 ELEMENTARY

PRAY IT OUTWe want to encourage you to pray as a family.

You can use the prayer below:Dear God,

Thank you for loving me so much. You are always there for me and never let me down. I want to put my complete trust in you. Please help me to have more faith and to believe only in you. I want to choose the door of faith - just like Peter did when he climbed out of the boat. We love you!

    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • 1. What does it mean to have faith? 2. Did Peter have faith in Jesus?3. How can I remember to have faith?

Hey parents! Take some time to go through these discussion questions this week with your child. This will help reinforce our teaching objective this week which is “I can choose to

have faith in Jesus.” The kids learned this teaching objective from the Bible story, Peter Walks on Water. Just like when Peter stepped out of the boat, we can have faith in Jesus! Having faith is believing in Jesus even though we can’t see him. We want the kids to remember that we can choose to

have faith in Jesus and put our trust in him!
