3D Printing with chocolate,

Maker Cosmos and

how can you help it happen

Page 2: MakerGod - Full deck

We’re a Poland-based team

Brought together by a vision of building a consumer

3D printer for chocolate

Reached the limit of bootstrapping after completing a

prototype…

Didn’t want the knowledge gained and all the hard work to

go to waste…

Started MakerGod – our take on a solid, reliable 3D printer

for plastic and leveraging the opportunities provided by 3D

printing, starting with the nascent Polish community

Most work is done, prototype of in-house designed 3D

printer is being tested now

Back-end for the social e-commerce site is done, front-end in

remaking, but…

We need external support for the last push

to bring the fruits of our work to the market Page 2

I’m done running a micro enterprise for cooling

and lighting installations!

OK, so what do you want to do, then?

A 3D printer for

chocolate!

Let’s build our own machine

during the summer!

Let’s learn from open source builds, first

We’ll need a lot more money to do it… : /

What else can we do?...

Design our own solid, reliable printer,

using our pains and hardships as a base!

Bootstrapping is tough, when you build machines…

After learning from open source solutions and

while building our choco printer we’ve run into

numerous problems,

with open source

solutions we were

using, such as the

extruder partly

melting and a

piece of metal at 350ºC falling on the table…

We wanted a solid, reliable

3D printer which we

wouldn’t have to babysit

(and fix) all the time…

And that’s how…

Remember the Chocolate 3D printer

from the beginning?

It’s currently on hold, because we can’t afford the

development still needed to go from the prototype

to a product, but…

We did build a working prototype!

We’ve built a working prototype, doing 3D models of

up to couple millimeters height, which is basically what

most other machines are capable of at the moment,

including the ones you can buy.

Partnering with the Agricultural University of Cracow

helped a lot.

We worked hard, ate a lot of chocolate and had fun, but

there are still probably at least two more prototype

iterations necessary to address the problems we

haven’t solved yet, due to our constraints.

Besides that, we have ideas!

How to address most issues with the chocolate

printer:

Custom cooling system to build chocolate

form of desired height,

A system for repeatable preparation of

chocolate, etc.

And other things we can we do with the

knowledge we’ve gained in the process:

Project of a printer for photopolymers (using

lasers instead of melting plastic)

Training machines and kits for schools, and…

In order to keep on improving,

we need three types of things:

Financial backing,

Mentorship and partnerships,

People.

Money

Shaper is being tested now, portal is

almost ready, but to keep on working

full-time on the project, with our team,

we need support until we bring the

product to market and break even,

guesstimated at ~ 100k EUR.

In order to develop the chocolate

printer, to the point where it can be

sold to consumers, probably 500k EUR

is the minimum.

Mentorship & partners

Doing stuff by yourself can get really

hard at times. We need someone we

could rely on, in terms of knowledge

and advice (i.e. how to get to the

market), experience, contacts or simply

providing some words of wisdom and

encouragement, when most needed.

People

Product engineer and / or designer, we

could turn to, when the things aren’t

working

Marketing whiz, who can help us do an

amazing launch and establish ourselves

worldwide

COO who could facilitate daily operations

and help with the nitty-gritty stuff

IT manager who could take over the

software and web part of project

Where we’re lacking?

Solid business model

If we got it right from the start, we wouldn’t

need support, now. We have some ideas, but

those require a reality check. Otherwise,

workshops and custom orders are the things

which can help us stay afloat…

The right competitive advantage

We did our research. We know who’s doing

what in Poland and what’s happening

worldwide, but that doesn’t give us the upper

hand, yet.

Where we’re lacking?

Marketing and customer acquisition

Yes, we thought

about that

as well.

But thinking,

however hard,

does not alter

the reality.

We have yet to do it.

According to some, it took God 6 days to…

We’re not God.

We’re not that powerful, not that wise, strong or fast, but

with a little help we can bring CREATION into your hands,
