MAKING A HOME FOR FAMILIES IN NEED

Valley Interfaith Promise has been in ministry in Columbus for 25 years, providing short-term housing for families in need. Congregations throughout the Chattahoochee Valley provide support for these families, offering them shelter in their own buildings, hot meals, and fellowship with members. St. Luke’s upcoming host week is unusual in that it will not be at St. Luke. As you are aware, a leaky sprinkler recently flooded our Respite Building, which has resulted in that ministry being temporarily housed in the Sunday School rooms typically used by our VIP ministry. St. Luke is grateful for Evangel Temple’s willingness to let us use their VIP house for our week, which begins this Sunday, January 24, and continues through January 31. Volunteers will simply report to 1931 Westminster Way at their usual time rather than to St. Luke.

It may be that you have felt God’s call on your life to be a part of this extraordinary ministry to homeless families. There are many ways to do so: as hosts, providing meals, setting up for the week or taking down at the end of the week. If you would like to know more about being the hands and feet of Christ through this ministry, please contact Kay Denes ([email protected]) or Doris Reid ([email protected]).

2016 PLEDGE UPDATEAs we prepare for a new year of ministry, I am pleased to inform you that: 326 families have pledged $2,874,684.40 for ministry through St. Luke in 2016! 146 families increased their pledge amount, 44 new families pledged this year and 26 families decreased their pledge. The great news is that the average amount of a family’s pledge increased by $1,087 for 2016 over 2015. This is a very good beginning, but there are many faithful families that we still need to hear from. Please make every attempt to get your 2016 pledge card in so that we may be faithful and effective in our planning for ministry and mission. Thank you for your gracious support, and thanks be to God for the generosity that is at the heart of St. Luke. Remember, you can email your pledge to [email protected].

Robert Beckum, Senior Pastor Mike Ogie, Stewardship Chair

“Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven” arr. Patti Drennan Praise, my soul, the King of heaven, to His feet Thy tribute bring; ransomed, healed, re-stored, forgiven, evermore His praises sing; Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the everlasting King. Alleluia! Alleluia! With our voices we will sing. Praise Him for His grace and favor to our fathers in distress; praise Him, still the same as ever, slow to chide, and swift to bless. Alleluia! Alleluia! Glorious in His faithfulness. Frail as summer’s flow’r we flourish; blows the wind and it’s gone; but, while mortals rise and perish, God endures unchanging on, and on. Angels in the height, adore Him; Ye behold Him face to face; saints triumphant, bow before Him, gathered in from ev’ry race. Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace. Let us praise God.

The Caregiver Support Group will meet Tuesday, January 26, 12:45 - 2:00 p.m. (This group usually meets in the Respite Care Building; if renovation is not com-plete, a note on the door will indicate the meeting place.)Each month a wonderful group of caregivers come together to share their joys, frustrations, and challenges in a safe, caring environment. Husbands, wives, daughters and sons tell their stories of caring for loved ones and experience the concern of others who can honestly say "We understand". The group is open to the community.

Respite Care needing to use the Sunday

School rooms used for VIP, we are using

Evangel Temple's VIP house located

at 1931 Westminster Way. Please be in prayer for the families in the VIP program
