Making an MP4 Video entirely in Powerpoint

Simple steps to make an mp4 Video

• STRONG RECOMMENDATION: Make a practice 1 minute version of your talk before you record the full 50-60 minute version. Be sure you have mastered the process before putting time into making the full version!


1. Open PowerPoint. (Steps may vary slightly on Macs and PCs, but they are generally the same.)

2. From the “File” menu, open a “New Presentation”.3. Create all your PowerPoint slides as you normally would.4. Please include slides of your title and a photo of yourself as the

introductory two slides.5. Save repeatedly.6. Go back to the first slide in your slide deck.


• When you are ready to deliver your recorded presentation, click on the PowerPoint Slide Show Menu.


• Click on the “Record Slide Show” icon.


• First decide if you wish to have your face seen as you’re giving your lecture.


• If you prefer not to be seen, then click on the camera symbol to turn it off.


• Control buttons are available starting the recording, pausing the recording, and turning your computer camera off. When you start, don’t be surprised if your version of Powerpoint gives you a 3-second countdown.• Advance to your next slide by clicking on the right arrow to the next

slide number.• Continue talking.


• Occasionally glance an eye at the timer on your Powerpoint screen so you know how far you are into your maximum 60-minute segment.


• When you’ve reached the end, click on the “End Show” icon in the upper left of your screen.


• SAVE the completed Powerpoint file.• Go back and watch your recording.


• To edit an individual slide, go to that individual slide of your presentation.• Click on “Record Slide Show.”


• Click on the trash can to delete your previous recording for that slide.• Then, click to start recording that slide again.


• Click on the red button again to stop the recording• Click on end show to return to the main Powerpoint screen.


• Extremely important: Save your file again• Now export it to an mp4 video by clicking on the Export command on

the file menu:


• Give the File a Meaningful Name and direct it to a good place on your computer


• Select MP4 as your file format


• Select “Internet” as your file quality


• Some versions of PowerPoint may ask you to specify the dimensions of your slides.• If so, click on “On-screen Show (16:9)” or “Widescreen”. Either will

work.


• Make sure that “Use Recorded Timings and Narrations” is checked


• Click on “Export”

• Depending upon your computer’s speed, this process could take 30-60 minutes. Your new mp4 file will then be ready for you to test it yourself.• Close your PowerPoint file and open your new mp4 file. It should

open as your new prerecorded video.• Make sure you are happy with the recording.• Congratulations!
