2. The Research Program is the Research and Innovation in STEM (RISE) Symposia, which focuses on research deliberation and enhancing the research skills of the students. RISE is an annual showcase of the excellence research conducted by SHPE members and faculty members. The RISE Symposia integrates and expands the Engineering Research Symposium and the Technical Paper and Poster Competitions that were part of prior SHPE conference. The RISE Symposia has two components: (1) paper presentations and (2) poster presentations.

SHPE is proud to offer its Corporate Tours Program every year at the conference. The program is open to all members. Participants have the opportunity to experience a company’s technology first-hand, meet with potential recruiters and network with engineers and scientists in their specialized fields.

1. Exelon Corporation BGE Spring Gardens Liquefield Natural Gas Facility The tour included the Gas System Control Center, Liquefield Natural Gas Plant and the solar powered Customer Call Center.

Exelon Industrial Services The tour gave insights into the shop’s multiple services, including job hazard analysis, industrial fabrication, reverse engineering, equipment refurbishment, machine/welding services and equipment material failure analysis.

2. Johns Hopkins University - Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU-APL)Participants saw first-hand the exciting and technically challenging work being done at APL, including the New Horizons Mission that recently visited Pluto and the DARPA sponsored neurally-controlled prosthetic arm. Participants also networked with APL Hispanic Awareness Club members during lunch.

3.Northrop GrummanCyber Security Operations System Visitors toured Northrop Grumman’s Cyber Security Operations System, which provides constant vigilance to ensure the protection of its networks from internal and external threats.

Advanced Concepts & Technologies Organization, Electronic Systems Sector Participants saw areas related to design, water fabrication,

screening and quality testing, packaging and assembly, and electrical testing.

4. Turner Construction CompanyVisitors got an up-close detailed look at the construction process during a walking tour of a Turner project.
