An Introduction
to Salesforce Lightning
Show of Hands
What is Lightning?
Lightning is the collection of tools and technologies bundled together within the Salesforce platform, to include:
• Modern user interfaces (Salesforce Lightning, Salesforce1, Communities).
• A JavaScript framework and set of standard components that allow you to build reusable components and build your own standalone apps.
• Drag-and-drop configuration for easy customizations.
Why the Change?
• Salesforce “Classic” was built on technology that is now aging.• Has had changes to the core interface every few years, but was being
incrementally added to with each release.
Why the Change?
• Salesforce Lightning shares the same platform as Salesforce1• Salesforce1 Mobile app was designed first with sustainability in mind
• Allows for cross-use of layouts and components between the desktop version (Lightning) and the mobile application (Salesforce1).
• Speed-to-market with new processes/apps increased dramatically.
Why Should I Care?
1) New features released will
predominantly be for the Lightning
interface.
2) Lightning has a similar look/feel to
the Salesforce1 mobile application.
3) Less clicks for common actions =
higher user adoption.

• The Kanban view allows for a more intuitive view of records in a list view.• Users can “drag-and-drop” records from one column to another.
• Summary totals will recalculate live based on record changes.
• Available on almost every object through list views!
• Records are grouped by record type under the same object.
• Keeps your list views clean without duplication.
Kanban

Path
• Path was originally called “Sales Path” as it only applied to Opportunities.
• Was renamed to “Path” in Spring ’17 as it can now be used on Quotes and Custom Objects.
• Path allows you to visually display a series of steps in a process, highlight key fields, and provide guidance to users along each step of the process.
