The medicinal and sweetening properties of the stevia leaf have been known for over 1,500 years in the Paraguayan rainforest. One day a Peace Corps volunteer introduced James A. May, a health care industry professional, to stevia leaves, which are 30 times sweeter than sugar. This chance encounter revolutionized the sugar alternative market!
In 1982, James A. The Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni plant was discovered more than 1,500 years ago by the native Guarani people, growing in clumps of two or three along the edges of the rainforests of Paraguay.
