IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE LEARNING OF THE FUTURE

In operation since 2007, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) welcomed the implementation of the K12 curriculum and opened MCL Senior High School (MCL-SHS) to more than a thousand Grade 11 students on June 13, 2016.

Situated along the South Luzon Expressway in the city of Cabuyao, MCL is accessible to students coming not only from the cities of Cabuyao, Calamba, Sta. Rosa, Biñan, and San Pedro but also to those from Sta. Cruz, Laguna; Lipa City, Batangas; and Muntinlupa City.

MCL-SHS implements a blended learning approach wherein usual classroom meetings are complemented with an online component: Blackboard Learn (BBL), a Web-based learning management system (LMS). More than just a venue for sharing instructional materials and submission of students’ works, BBL also serves as an extended classroom for discussion forums where students can have lively, ongoing, and recordable conversations.

Known for its Smart Campus, MCL-SHS uses dynamic “beyond textbooks and lectures” tools for learning. Smart classrooms, interactive whiteboards, student-response systems such as “clickers,” access to digital resources that complement Science and

Math textbooks, and campus-wide wireless connectivity to high speed internet allow students to experience 21st century learning.

MCL-SHS improved its curriculum by adding 4 core courses – Supplementary Math subjects, Rizal’s Life and Works, Life Skills, and World Religions and Belief Systems – to better prepare students for college and beyond.

In sync with the College calendar, MCL-SHS also follows a trimestral system to help students improve their focus on each course and to condition them for college life. Because of their half-day schedule, they get to have more time for independent learning, through either BBL or the collaborative projects in different courses.

Side by side with academic works, students may participate in various extracurricular and co-curricular activities, such as by joining the SHS Student Council, SHS Student Clubs, and varsity teams in various sports.

Upholding MCL’s motto, Excellence and Virtue, MCL-SHS students are on their way to performing their best in everything, in preparation for service to our country and to humanity.

‘beyond textbooks and lectures’ tools for learning.”

Known for its Smart Campus, MCL-SHS uses dynamic

Last year, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) opened its doors to Grade 11 students. We were glad that about a thousand enthusiastic students showed up by our doorsteps. Suddenly, Senior High School had become a major part of our lives at MCL. It was a natural and easy transition because we already had very highly qualified faculty and well-equipped laboratories to begin with.

This year, we take in another crop. Like the first batch, they can expect to experience the same learner-centered system of education that we have espoused for our senior high school as well as for our college level programs.

Reynaldo B. Vea, Ph.D.President / CEO

We have infused our senior high school with the same quality thatcharacterizes our college programs, which now are among the top in the country as evidenced by very high passing rates of its graduates in the board exams. The same motto of “Excellence and Virtue” guides our Senior High Programs.

Come study with us. Our senior high school could very well be not only your gateway to but also your in-house training ground for our vaunted tertiary level academic programs!

“I can say that the instructors here at MCL are professional, because they really are experts in their field. They have adapted their teaching to the K-12 system. Class discussions are fun and interactive, unlike before that the teachers would be the ones talking and discussing. Their teaching delivery is effective and they really uphold the institution’s outcomes-based approach in learning. When a Science instructor comes in, we know that he/she is a Science teacher because of his/her knowledge on the subject, and same as with other subjects.”

“MCL uses state-of-the-art facilities, relevant learning tools, technology, and online systems as accompaniments to face-to-face class sessions. The institution has been actively involved in the school-wide adoption of Blackboard Learn (BBL), a Learning Management System (LMS) that allows students quick access to course resources and assessments. It helps them create distinct paths towards attaining learning outcomes. Also, our smart classrooms take students to a whole new level of engagement. They set the stage for all the other learning tools that we use during face-to-face sessions.”

WHY CHOOSE MCL SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL?

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE LEARNING OF THE FUTURE

“Our students pursue what they think they can afford and what is necessary for them. That is why we are strengthening not only our technical-vocational tracks but also our college preparatory strands (STEM, ABM, HUMSS, and PBM). What we can promise our students is a learner-centered outcomes-based curriculum that can really prepare them for college or for work. And, I am pretty sure that MCL will be able to produce Grade 12 graduates that can be successful in whatever path they choose.”

“MCL adopts an outcomes-based approach in educating its students to transform them into globally competitive professionals. In addition, we did some adaptations in the curriculum to further highlight learner-centeredness because we have to make sure that our students are ready for bigger and more difficult things. Improving our curriculum is our way to have more to offer to our students compared to other Senior High Schools. We know where they are coming from, therefore, we nurture them. It’s our commitment to learner-centeredness.”

CAMPUS LIFE

SUMMER CAMP SEMINARS & FORUMS ORGANIZATIONS

Have a glimpse of how students are involved in non-academic activities here at MCL.

Students get to experience the MCL life even before regular classes start through the MCL Summer Camp. To help incoming SHS students adjust to a higher level of education, tutorial classes in English, Algebra, Biology, and Chemistry are held during the Camp. Participants also get to develop bonds of friendship and teamwork through the various activities.

To help students in their academic and personal lives, seminars are held from time to time. MCL invites experts from different fields of expertise to share their knowledge about certain topics and to give students sets of advice.

For students who are into performing, fashion, film, literature, and other activities, student organizations will encourage you to keep that passion burning. Established to unite students with common interests, these groups can help you with self-improvement as well as provide an avenue for you to build connections.
