Nicknamed the Garden City, Singapore stretches acrossMalaysia's southern-most region. Experience the vibrant hustleand bustle of this city-state for yourself at the Marina Bay. Notoo far away is the historic centre, offering up a uniquesmorgasbord of neoclassical buildings and contemporarytowers. Decked out in topiary, the pavements of Orchard Roadare also home to countless shopping centres. The colourfulmarkets in Chinatown and Little India are the perfectopportunity to quell hunger pangs in a hawker centre, one of thecity's traditional snack bars. Between the two districts, get aslice of history with a trip to the Raffles dock. It was here thatEnglishman Sir Raffles, the founder of the city, is said to havearrived one fateful day in January 1819.

Day 2 MALACCA

Lying along the shores of the eponymous Strait, Malacca Cityhas been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A witness ofthe maritime traffic between Asia and the West, the city isinextricably linked to the trade of spices and silk. This culturaloasis will show you the history of a fascinating ancientcivilization, the Baba Nyonya, the descendants of Chineseimmigrants who married Malay women. In a Peranakan house inChinatown, you will discover the Baba Nyonya HeritageMuseum, which reproduces the interior of a traditional eleganthome from the 19th century. The Baba Nyonya were wealthytraders who liked to indulge their taste for sumptuous furnituremade from teak and mother-of-pearl, rare jewels and silkbrocade.

The leading British trading post of the Far East in the 19thcentury, this tiny island has a unique atmosphere of both Eastand West. Known as the "Pearl of the East" in the past, for itsmany trades of spice, fabrics, and tin, Penang has become oneof the most sought-after destinations in Malaysia. George Town,its capital, is home to an extremely rich historical heritage, aUNESCO World Heritage Site. Be sure to discover the BlueMansion, a real architectural marvel that blends traditionalChinese style with eastern elements.

Days 8 - 10 YANGON

Better known under its colonial name, Rangoon, the formercapital of Myanmar was long nicknamed "the garden city of theEast" and it remains the country's administrative and economiccapital. The city is lush and refreshing thanks to its luxuriantvegetation and its royal lakes. Having retained a colonialambiance that contributes to its nostalgic charm, Yangonexudes a very special atmosphere. During your visit, do not missthe majestic Shwedagon Pagoda, the most sacred in Burma. Itsdome is covered in gold and encrusted with over 2,500precious stones. Nestling in the heart of a vast religiouscomplex, it is surrounded by 72 other buildings. The purelyBurmese architecture includes golden Buddhas and legendaryNats.
