Lamentations 3:22-24. The unfailing love of the

LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from

complete destruction. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his

mercies begin afresh each day. 24 I say to myself, “The

LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

As we say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017

many of us will go through the motions of making New

Year’s Resolutions; like resolving to lose 100 lbs a week

this year. Some resolve to exercise four hours a day, seven

days a week, or resolve to only eat one piece of chocolate

a day, etc. There may be a couple of you who will make

resolutions that you will keep throughout the year. But,

most of us will not.

And what will happen when by 10 am January

1st you find yourself going to the Christmas cookie jar for

the fifth time? Will you give up? Will you say your reso-

lution starts tomorrow? The point is, we often think that

we only start new and a fresh at the beginning of the year.

But Praise God, He is not like that!

Maybe your New Year’s Resolution is to not fall

into that familiar sin of yours. And you say to yourself,

this year, I am going to tell the truth no matter what; or

this year, I am not going to overeat. This year, I am going

to stay away from ________; or this year, I am going to

be an encourager not a condemner. And you make it a day

or two or a week, and then you fall again.

His mercies begin afresh each day. God gives us

a fresh start each day. To God each and every day has the

potential for resolutions that will glorify Him. Each day is

a blank slate ready to give Him glory. Each and every day

carries enough forgiveness to cleanse a lifetime of sin.

So instead of looking at 2017 as a single oppor-

tunity to do something for God or change something in

your life. Look at it as a series of 365 opportunities to do

the will of God. And if you mess up on January 2nd or

April 15th you still have hundreds of opportunities left.

That is the true mark of putting your hope in Him. Understand I am not encouraging you to give up or to sin

or any such thing. What I hope is that you will realize that

when something doesn’t go exactly right and you know

not everything will; or if you feel like you have failed God

in some way, and you know at some point we all will, just

remember, the unfailing love of the LORD never ends!
