„100m hurdles…?“

Sportforum Mals 2017 – Obstacle Course - cs 2

1. Obstacle Course: this is how it works conditions To make sure an obstacle course „works out“ and is successful, the course requires to be …:

fetching / attracting feasable (all participants must be able to pass the obstacles) measurable (conditions must be clear to everybody) secure (accident risk) reconstructable (the track and the obstacles must be put on the exact same spot in the exactly

same way). Requirements

physical condition skills: quickness speed force endurance

coordination skills balance orientation reaction rhythm differnciation

technical / tactical skills …

Think of…:

how long should the course be (distance / time)? how many obstacles? how many types of obstacles (cross / traverse / balance / brachiate / cleverness…)? obstacles with the option of bonus or detour (for less courageous / „disabled“) one track? multiple tracks (permits direct competition)? who invents / presents? …

2. Planning Set / clarify preconditions. Set schedule. Plan / prepare documentary. 1st Lesson: invent

other-directed (teacher / coach sets conditions) self-determined (students / athletes invent their obstacle course)

(one part / stage per group; democratic …) Coaching!!

2nd Lesson: Present / get to know / adapt clarify conditions for everybody ensure characteristics (feasable / measurable / safe / reconstructable) if needed: adapt sequence / obstacles (democratic procedure vs. leadership decision) if needed: set special conditions for participants with special needs education or physical needs (

integration / inclusion) 3rd Lesson: Practice

frequency intensity variance

4th Lesson: bring it to perfection

prepare for competition „emergency result“ (if participants is not present on the competition date, this score will count)

5th Lesson: the test

competition competition atmosphere

3. Documentation Map

establish a map of your obstacle course in order to permit reconstructability and any kind of practice. Keep it as simple as possible.

5. Standard-Courses “VBS“ This course leads around a volleyball court. The starting line is 1m behind the base-line.

6. Evaluation The Swiss scale: Mark 6 = excellent 5 = good 4 = sufficient 3 = unsufficient 2 = weak 1 = very weak Standard-Scales Obstacle Course „VBS“ (for young women (Mädchen) / men (Knaben), age 12 - 14) Advantage: long-time comparison possible Disadvantage: might be cruel if the group is weak… J&S-Scale Base: Best score + 10% = 6 (excellent) average value + 20% = 4 (sufficient) (terminal-based linearity) Advantage: mirrors the actual test group appreciates this group’s dispersion Disadvantage: no comparison to „all-time“ scores (if the same course is re-used)
