Emvin Cremona (1919–1987) was a Maltese artist and stamp designer. He is regarded as one of the best Maltese artists of the 20th century, well known especially for many church paintings. He was born in Valletta and from a young age showed that he had great artistic talent, however as nobody in his family was artistically inclined he was not encouraged to take up art seriously. He studied art at the Malta School of Arts under the direction of Edward Caruana Dingli and Karmenu Mangion. He also studied at the School of Nude under the direction of Josef Kalleja.

The Search for Christ and the Finding of Christ in the Temple

Page 62: Malta17, Emvin Cremona (1919–1987)

It came to be known that the works, completed by Cremona between 1954 and 1962, were hung in the sanctuary until they were dispatched to Italy for mosaics to be produced. On their return, the paintings were stored in a closet in the church and eventually lay forgotten. Some of them suffered great damage following prolonged dampness and poor storage conditions.
