• One of the most important risk factors for developing SCC.

• Common causes:• Solid organ transplantation

• Lymphoma (esp NHL) and leukemia (esp CLL)

• HIV

• 65-250 times increased risk in solid OTR.• Also greater risk of recurrence and metastasis.

• 10-18% with nodal metastases in NHL/CLL.

• HIV has 5 x increased risk.

Conclusion

• As the incidence of cSCCHN is rising, the responsibility is with the physician to help prevent and cure this treatable disease.

• Primary surgical excision usually provides cure as a single modality.
