  • aides would think she was nuts if they walked inon her.

Time spent with Christine always includedsinging together. She never failed to amaze me howshe knew, not only the first verse to songs, but thesecond and third ones as well. Then there’s Izzy, who has her favorite songs and she’s not shy aboutsinging them. They would include Beautiful, Beau-tiful Brown Eyes, Put Another log on the Fire andthe Muskegon Heights High School fight song. Shealso loves to sing songs to get a reaction, like whenshe puts on her most sincere face and sings, “I al-ways do what’s right, I never do anything wrong, I’ma Romper Room Do Bee, I do bee all day long.”

Geri in F hall likes to sing spiritual songs thatshe wrote herself. Her face lights up when she singsthem, and you can tell they were written with ajoyful heart. Karen, however, doesn’t necessarilyneed words, but she hums or La-la-las to music

that just seems to flow out ofher automatically While do-ing jigsaw puzzles in theLife Enrichment Room shewould be singing away. Weloved to tease her about it,and it became a private jokeamongst her friends.

In 2021 we look for-ward to inviting others inand hearing concerts again, but until then, we’re enter-taining ourselves.

Here at Seminole Shores we really miss our en-tertainers. Before covid-19, there was a concerta week from a variety of talented people. I espe-cially miss JR (Huse), who is the husband of Pat,a resident here. He loved performing and gave uslots of concerts and never took a payment. Backin the day, JR played with a country band and heknows all kinds of songs, but he especially lovedto perform Blue Eye’s Crying in the Rain and Sun-day Mornin’ Comin’ Down. It will be so wonder-ful to have him in the building again and next toPat’s side. Before covid-19, JR hadn’t missed a daycoming to see his wife Pat in over four years.

Music plays such a huge part of our lives. Nothaving entertainers in the buildering is an unfor-tunate part of a quarantine, but it didn’t stop folkshere from singing. In D hall you can hear John’sbeautiful tenor voice as he sings with the GaitherBand on TV. When Erma enters the life enrich-ment room, she always has asong coming from her heart. One day I went to Erma’sroom and we sang gospelsongs together. We reallyraised the roof that day, whatfun it was. Then there’s themild-mannered residentswho are shyer about theirsinging. One resident con-fided in me that she sings outloud when she’s alone in herroom. She was sure that the

role in her interest in the medical field. She hasa younger brother who has had series health is-sues throughout his life. He has been throughtwenty-eight surgeries (four being heart surger-ies). Alyson spent many hours in the car travel-ing from small town Fowler (where she grew up)to Ann Arbor where she waited in hospital wait-ing rooms. At home, caretaking became a partof who she was. Someday, hopefully, she’ll sharethat gift of caretaking by working in pediatrics.

Alyson bought a home in Muskegon last yearand she likes it here in Muskegon. Eventually

though she wants to moveout to the country. Shewould love to have a nicepiece of land. Then her girl-friend, Andrea, their threecats and two Pit Bulls (Wil-low and Jagar), could spreadout. Why she might evenget another dog. Ashley saysthe best stress reliever is heranimals.

Med Techs play a significant role here. It’s ajob that calls for great attentiveness and focus.Med Tech, Alyson, came to the job with just that. She has experience working at ProMed as a para-medic. Her strengths in school were in the Mathand Sciences. In High School she joined the clubBPA (Business Professionals of America). Theymet after school and offered training in the buis-ness field. Alyson took advantage of the ac-counting classes, but her real interest was goinginto the medical field. So, after High School shewent to Ferris College and started in their nurs-ing program. While there, she decided she wanted toexperience what being aparamedic was like, so sheswitched over to Baker Col-lege and attended their two-year program. At some lat-er point, she wants to goback to college and earn abachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Administrator NotesHappy New Year to everyone. While

we are dreaming of 2021 being a year ofgetting back to normal, we can also lookback in awe at our resilience in the face ofthe covid-19 pandemic. It tested us likewe never imagined but it also strength-ened us, as we were committed to perse-vere in the face of adversity. The lesson forus in 2020 was to be attentive, be adapt-able and work together to find solutions.

Thanks to all the residents for their pa-tience and understanding, to the staff whoworked so diligently, and to our corpora-tion, Heritage Senior Communities, whowaded through all the latest public infor-mation to direct us in policy’s that wouldbe in the best interests of all.

A special thanks goes out to our fami-lies as well. We recognize how stressful itis to not be with your loved ones. We canonly imagine what it’s like to have somuch be taken out of your hands andcontrol. We appreciate you standing byus, encouraging us, and following policiesyou might not even fully understood. Ittakes all of us working together.
