Susan Wolfinger Schmitt joined Maryland Public Television in 1998 and currently serves as the statewide public television network’s managing director, Human Resources. In her current role, Susan Wolfinger Schmitt is responsible for employee benefits, employee compensation, performance management, employee relations, and special projects. In addition, she is MPT’s Equal Employment Opportunity and American with Disabilities Act officer. Mrs. Wolfinger Schmitt joined MPT in 1998 as a personnel assistant working part-time while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Maryland. She initially planned a career in clinical psychology but working at MPT inspired her to pursue studies in human resources. After earning her degree, she became a full-time MPT employee. In 2005, Mrs. Wolfinger Schmitt became a benefits coordinator, and three years later was promoted to director of benefits and compensation. Her duties included oversight of MPT’s performance appraisal and performance management systems. Mrs. Wolfinger Schmitt also played a key role in transitioning MPT from a paper-based to an online-based records system. She also helped build the compensation component within this process. In 2016, she was promoted to the position of managing director, Human Resources. Along with her core responsibilities, Mrs. Wolfinger Schmitt also spearheads MPT’s Health and Wellness Initiative and formed MPT’s first wellness committee. In 2018, the committee established MPT’s first employee gym, along with providing several other wellness events. She is a certified mediator for the Shared Neutrals Mediation Program with the State of Maryland and a certified employee trainer. She has earned certification with the Society of Human Resources Management and Professional in Human Resources certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute. She is also a member of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources. Ms. Wolfinger Schmitt resides in Baltimore County with her husband, Jonathan, and their three sons, Johnny, Phineas, and Oliver.
