Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:2

I was glad when they said unto me, "We will go into the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1

Confession of Sin BCP Page 41

Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God.

Silence may be kept.

Officiant and People together, all kneeling

Almighty and most merciful Father,

we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep,

we have followed too much the devices and desires of our

own hearts,

we have offended against thy holy laws,

we have left undone those things which we ought to

have done,

and we have done those things which we ought not to

have done.

But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us,

spare thou those who confess their faults,

restore thou those who are penitent,

according to thy promises declared unto mankind

in Christ Jesus our Lord;

and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake,

that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life,

to the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.

The Priest alone stands and says BCP Page 42

The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life,

and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. Amen.

All stand

Officiant O Lord, open thou our lips.

People And our mouth shall show forth thy praise.

Officiant and People

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

Except in Lent, Alleluia may be added.

Venite Psalm 95:1-7 (recited) BCP Page 44

O come, let us sing unto the Lord; *

let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *

and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God, *

and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are all the corners of the earth, *

and the strength of the hills is his also.

The sea is his, and he made it, *

and his hands prepared the dry land.

O come, let us worship and fall down, *

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is the Lord our God, *

and we are the people of his pasture

and the sheep of his hand.

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; *

let the whole earth stand in awe of him.

For he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth, *

and with righteousness to judge the world

and the peoples with his truth.

All seated

The Psalm 105:1-6, 16-22, 45b (recited) BCP Page 738

1 Give thanks to the LORD and call upon his Name; *

make known his deeds among the peoples.

2 Sing to him, sing praises to him, *

and speak of all his marvelous works.

3 Glory in his holy Name; *

let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

4 Search for the LORD and his strength; *

continually seek his face.

5 Remember the marvels he has done, *

his wonders and the judgments of his mouth,

6 O offspring of Abraham his servant, *

O children of Jacob his chosen.

16 Then he called for a famine in the land *

and destroyed the supply of bread.

17 He sent a man before them, *

Joseph, who was sold as a slave.

18 They bruised his feet in fetters; *

his neck they put in an iron collar.

19 Until his prediction came to pass, *

the word of the LORD tested him.

20 The king sent and released him; *

the ruler of the peoples set him free.

21 He set him as a master over his household,

as a ruler over all his possessions,

22 To instruct his princes according to his will

and to teach his elders wisdom.

45 Hallelujah!

A Reading from Romans 10:5-15

Moses writes concerning the righteousness that comes from the law, that “the person who does these things will live

by them.” But the righteousness that comes from faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into

heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the

dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we

proclaim); because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him

from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the

mouth and so is saved. The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” For there is no

distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. For,

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” But how are they to call on one in whom they have

not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without

someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful

are the feet of those who bring good news!”

The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

Benedictus Es, Domine (recited) BCP Page 49

Blessed art thou, O Lord God of our fathers; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou for the name of thy Majesty; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou in the temple of thy holiness; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou that beholdest the depths,

and dwellest between the Cherubim; *

praised and exalted above all for ever.

Blessed art thou on the glorious throne of thy kingdom; *

A Reading from The Gospel According to Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. And

after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there

alone, but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. And

early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea,

they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said,

“Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the

water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But

when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus

immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When

they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of

God.”

The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

The Sermon The Rev. Gini DiStanislao

The Apostles' Creed BCP Page 53

Officiant and People together, all standing

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord;

who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, dead, and buried.

He descended into hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven,

and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.

From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost,

the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Collect of the Day BCP Page 180

Grant to us, Lord, we pray, the spirit to think and do always those things that are right, that we, who cannot exist

without you, may by you be enabled to live according to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and

reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

A Collect for Sundays BCP Page 56

O God, who makest us glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of thy Son our Lord: Grant us this

day such blessing through our worship of thee, that the days to come may be spent in thy favor; through the same Jesus

Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Collect for Peace BCP Page 57

O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service

is perfect freedom: Defend us, thy humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense,

may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For the Parish BCP Page 817

Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen

the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us

all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Prayers of the People BCP Page 329

The Deacon or other person appointed says

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ's Church and the world.

After each paragraph of this prayer, the People may make an appropriate response, as directed.

Almighty and everliving God, who in thy holy Word hast taught us to make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks

for all men: Receive these our prayers which we offer unto thy divine Majesty, beseeching thee to inspire continually the

Universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord; and grant that all those who do confess thy holy Name may

agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity and godly love.

Give grace, O heavenly Father, to all bishops and other ministers [especially Michael, our Presiding Bishop, and Susan,

our Bishop and Gini, our priest], that they may, both by their life and doctrine, set forth thy true and lively Word, and

rightly and duly administer thy holy Sacraments.

Page 8: MANAKIN EPISCOPAL CHURCH · 8/6/2020  · Blessed art thou in the firmament of heaven; * praised and exalted above all for ever. Blessed art thou, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;

8

And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace, and especially to this congregation here present; that, with meek heart and

due reverence, they may hear and receive thy holy Word, truly serving thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of

their life.

We beseech thee also so to rule the hearts of those who bear the authority of government in this and every land [especially

Donald, our President, Ralph our Governor and our courts and legislators], that they may be led to wise decisions and

right actions for the welfare and peace of the world.

Open, O Lord, the eyes of all people to behold thy gracious hand in all thy works, that, rejoicing in thy whole creation,

they may honor thee with their substance, and be faithful stewards of thy bounty.

And we most humbly beseech thee, of thy goodness, O Lord, to comfort and succor [all those on our prayer list] all those

who in this transitory life, are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity.

And we also bless thy holy Name for all thy servants departed this life in thy faith and fear (especially Billy Marr) in

whose memory the altar flowers are given, beseeching thee to grant them continual growth in thy love and service; and to

grant us grace so to follow the good examples of all thy saints, that with them we may be partakers of thy heavenly

kingdom.

Grant these our prayers, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

General Thanksgiving BCP Page 58

Officiant and People

Almighty God, Father of all mercies,

we thine unworthy servants

do give thee most humble and hearty thanks

for all thy goodness and loving-kindness

to us and to all men.

We bless thee for our creation, preservation,

and all the blessings of this life;

but above all for thine inestimable love

in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;

for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.

And, we beseech thee,

give us that due sense of all thy mercies,

that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful;

and that we show forth thy praise,

not only with our lips, but in our lives,

by giving up our selves to thy service,

and by walking before thee

in holiness and righteousness all our days;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost,

be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.

Let us bless the Lord. BCP Page 59

Thanks be to God.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore.

Amen. 2 Corinthians 13:14

The Peace

All stand. The Celebrant says to the people

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

People And with thy spirit.

Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the name of the Lord.

The Offertory and Announcements

Anthem: Sarabande on “Land Of Rest” Gerald Near

Eucharistic Prayer II BCP Page 340

The people remain standing. The Celebrant, whether bishop or priest, faces them and says

The Lord be with you.

People And with thy spirit.

Celebrant Lift up your hearts.

People We lift them up unto the Lord.

Celebrant Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.

People It is meet and right so to do.

Then, facing the Holy Table, the Celebrant proceeds

It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord,

holy Father, almighty, everlasting God. Creator of the light and source of life, who has made us in thine image and called

us to new life in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Therefore with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious Name;

evermore praising thee, and saying,

Celebrant and People

Sanctus (recited) BCP Page 341

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts:

Heaven and earth are full of thy glory.

Glory be to thee, O Lord Most High.

Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.

The people kneel or stand.

Then the Celebrant continues BCP Page 341

All glory be to thee, O Lord our God, for that thou didst create heaven and earth, and didst make us in thine own image;

and, of thy tender mercy, didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to take our nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the

cross for our redemption. He made there a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy

Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death and sacrifice, until his coming again.

Page 10: MANAKIN EPISCOPAL CHURCH · 8/6/2020  · Blessed art thou in the firmament of heaven; * praised and exalted above all for ever. Blessed art thou, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;

10

At the following words concerning the bread, the Celebrant is to hold it, or lay a hand upon it; and at the words

concerning the cup, to hold or place a hand upon the cup and any other vessel containing wine to be consecrated

For in the night in which he was betrayed, he took bread; and when he had given thanks to thee, he broke it, and gave it to

his disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my Body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you;

for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as oft as

ye shall drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Wherefore, O Lord and heavenly Father, we thy people do celebrate and make, with these thy holy gifts which we now

offer unto thee, the memorial thy Son hath commanded us to make; having in remembrance his blessed passion and

precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension; and looking for his coming again with power and great

glory.

And we most humbly beseech thee, O merciful Father, to hear us, and, with thy Word and Holy Spirit, to bless and

sanctify these gifts of bread and wine, that they may be unto us the Body and Blood of thy dearly beloved Son Jesus

Christ.

And we earnestly desire thy fatherly goodness to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, whereby we offer

and present unto thee, O Lord, our selves, our souls and bodies. Grant, we beseech thee, that all who partake of this Holy

Communion may worthily receive the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and be filled with thy grace

and heavenly benediction; and also that we and all thy whole Church may be made one body with him, that he may dwell

in us, and we in him; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord;

By whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost all honor and glory be unto thee, O Father

Almighty, world without end. AMEN.

And now, as our Savior Christ hath taught us, we are bold to say,

People and Celebrant BCP Page 336

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory,

for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread

The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread.

A period of silence is kept.

Page 11: MANAKIN EPISCOPAL CHURCH · 8/6/2020  · Blessed art thou in the firmament of heaven; * praised and exalted above all for ever. Blessed art thou, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;

11

Then may be said

[Alleluia.] Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us; BCP Page 337

Therefore let us keep the feast. [Alleluia.]

The following prayer may be said. The People may join in saying this prayer

We do not presume to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in thy manifold and

great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the same Lord whose

property is always to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to

drink his blood, that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

Facing the people, the Celebrant may say the following Invitation

The Gifts of God for the People of God. BCP Page 338

and

may

add

Take them in remembrance that Christ died for

you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith,

with thanksgiving.

Spiritual Communion is excerpted from Saint Augustine’s Prayer Book and used with permission © 2014 Forward Movement

In union, blessed Jesus, with the faithful gathered at every altar of your Church where your blessed Body and Blood are

offered this day, (and remembering particularly Manakin Episcopal Church) we long to offer you praise and thanksgiving,

for creation and all the blessings of this life, for the redemption won for us by your life, death, and resurrection, for the

means of grace and the hope of glory.

And particularly for the blessings given us. We believe that you are truly present in the Holy Sacrament, and, since we

cannot at this time receive communion, we pray you to come into our hearts. We unite ourselves with you and embrace

you with all our hearts, our souls and our minds. Let nothing separate us from you; let us serve you in this life until, by

your grace, we come to your glorious kingdom and unending peace. Amen.

Come Lord Jesus, and dwell in our hearts in the fullness of your strength; be our wisdom and guide us in right pathways;

conform our lives and actions to the image of your holiness; and, in the power of your gracious might, rule over every

hostile power that threatens or disturbs the growth of your kingdom, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit, lives and

reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Communion Meditation:

After Communion, the Celebrant says

Let us pray.

The People may join in saying this prayer BCP Page 339

Almighty and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee for that thou dost feed us, in these holy mysteries, with the

spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby of thy

favor and goodness towards us; and that we are very members incorporate in the mystical body of thy Son, the blessed

company of all faithful people; and are also heirs, through hope, of thy everlasting kingdom. And we humbly beseech

thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good

works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost, be

all honor and glory, world without end. Amen.
